Maybe you just shouldn't get so "intimate" with your "babies". That way the lenses wont get any "mess" on them:)

It is a japanese microfiber that is included with the lens. Similar to that that came with fujitsu plasmas.

Sams does sell a glowing green microfiber rags ream that is what we use on the porthole with great results.

thats why new pr. always looks so good.

dust is the biggest ansi cr. killer.

On a projector that has a removeable lens,would you remove it and clean the inside as well as the outside surfaces of the lens? We have a projection room that has been pretty exposed to dust since we installed it a few weeks ago.
I suspect the lens is the biggest culprit.The mirrors and rear screen material are so large the dust is not a big factor?

Careful that you do not let more dust into the porojector by said procedure, yes go ahead.

As soon as you are done cleaning port glass or a lens if light is
passing through it you can see the dust re clinging to it like a magnet.
Does anyone make an anti static cleaner?

If I am not mistaken,an ion generator changes the charge on particles in the air. They then are attracted to a convenient nearby surface. Like the lens? Probably make things worse :)

Funny, I was going to post that, an ion generator will make it worse for sure.

The top is an Ionizer making dust heavyly charged the bottom part is an negative ion attractor grabbing the dust down.

Be careful with those. They create ozone which has many negative effects on the human body when the concentration becomes too high.

Yeah it irritated my respiratory system once when I had the unit on the desk, i WAS SICK FOR 3 MONTHS.

No it was super irritating, I placed it in front of my desk to try cure allergies fromn the jungle in Coconut Grove and it cauterised my entire respiratory tract after 2 months. Most stupid thing I have ever done. I liked that after the thunderstorm scent, but it was killing me.

Because these projectors are in rather inaccessible parts of the house (projecction booths etc. ) is not like one will be directly inhaling the ions. :D

It was not as much as a recommendation as a suggestion.:D They say it attracts dust.

Actually it is ozone you are worried about not ions, and placing it in confined spaces is exactly the opposite of what you want to do. A confined space is more dangerous due to the higher concentrations of ozone possible.

Bathroom style exhaust fan might work to clear the space prior to you coming back in to realign things.

if you pressurize the space and ensure proper filtering, then no issues.

With all the cursing in Italian I heard yesterday, I too curse in Italian now. I went by Helene to check the DirectV install and some idiot grease ball worker had swiped the card, then to boot the glass is filthy, there is no ansi contrast to the image again. The projector needs to be close to the glass so not everyone is up to the task of cleaning it. I now need the Jamaican glass cleaning crew to do this before the 19. Damn.

At the risk of sounding schizophrenic, I cannot overemphasize enough what a humongougargantuan difference in MTF cleaning the glass with these microfiber rags makes.

I have a prismatic lens and I took it off and cleaned all of the various sides to it. And while better overall in terms of renewed contrast and pop, it still seems like there is dust and even fingerprints that don't want to completely come off. Is there a cleaning solution that is safe to use to help get dirt/dust/fingerprints/etc. off and repel against those?

These people claim to have such hydrophobic coating. Why dont' you ask them.

Stewart recommends Isopropyl Alcohol with Micro Fiber cloth. On their Mirrors anyway. Have not tried it yet.
I am pretty nervous about cleaning first surface mirrors!
