I am considering adding a Apple TV to my HT. I am just wondering if a Universal Remote preferably the Logitech 890 can be used to operate it.

I have seen Apple TV being controlled by both Crestron and RTI, so I see no reason why a Harmony would not control the unit.

Yes the Logitech will control it. If it has an IR learning capability any remote can operate the Apple TV.

Also works on Apple Laptops as well.

I have ATV controlled with a MX900. Use learn to get codes in. There are so few buttons that it is a piece of cake!

See my HT at www.johntkeller.com follow the link to the theater photos.

Yep, it doesn't get much simpler than that. :)

Actually, it can. AppleTv is in the Logitech database (under Media Center PC). Just add the device to your remote and you're done. I have the harmony 670 fyi.

I was referring to the simplicity of the Apple remote after John's comment about there being so few buttons. :)

I guess I do remember a few early remotes having even fewer buttons (like only on and off) but in today's remote control world, the Apple is about as simple as it gets.

How do I get the Harmony to actually turn the AppleTV on & off? Automatically?

The AppleTV is designed to be left on all the time

Then why is there an option to put it to sleep? (hold down the Play button. Apparently putting the ATV to sleep is no longer possible automatically with the Harmony, though...you have to do it manually) What function does that serve, if the ATV should always be on?

Without making any comment on the design of this unit, the sleep procedure you mention turns off the output to the TV, but the main unit continues to run.

Does anybody know how to get a Panasonic TH50PZ85U remote (http://www.panasonic.newremotecontrol.com/catalog_item.php?catnum=N2QAYB000220) to play with AppleTV?
