I noticed that Panasonic has 1080p (1920x1080) Plasma's in the 42", will Pioneer have a 42" that's 1080p instead of the 1024x768 currently in either the regular or Elite lines? Also, are Pioneer or Elite Plasma's still made in Japan? I'm still using the PDP-4330HD, can you still add a component box to the current models? Thanks.

Pioneer will no longer be making a 42" Plasma panel. I do hear rumors that there will be a 42" lcd coming out now that Sharp owns 15% of Pioneers stock and is the number one share holder.

No.

Pioneer will have 50" and 60" 1080p plasmas this year, no 42" (1080p or otherwise).

Does it matter? I couldn't even tell a difference between Pioneer's 50" 720p and their 50" 1080p when I went to the store today and they were side-by-side and I was standing 5 feet away.

1080p is worthless at 42". Save your money and get a 720p model.

Actually there will be 32, 37 and 46 inch Kuro LCDs but no 42.

no 42" models in the new 9g plasma lineup, 50 and 60" 1080p models only.

the plasma panels are made in Japan and other parts sourced elsewhere, then shipped to and assembled in California, at least thorough the 9g models.

Just because you can't see the difference doesn't mean nobody else does. On the 50" Pioneers and Panasonics i can tell the difference even at 12 feet.

I actually set out to buy a Pioneer 4280HD but the SDE at my 8 foot distance forced me to turn to the 42" 1080p Panny instead. That SDE was a deal-breaker. If Pioneer had made a 42" 1080p set then i'd be watching one right now, but they don't. You need to get your eyes checked! ;)

About half of the Right Brain descriptions don't fit me at all, but all of the Left Brain items do :)

Too funny...there has to be some connection between you seeing it clockwise and seeing the SDE. I'm pretty observant with details (drives the wifey crazy) so I'm puzzled why I haven't noticed it yet.

More importantly, can you see SDE on 720p sets? :)

I agree with Randy, For a lot of people the SDE can drive them crazy & my suggestion is to go check the TVs out for yourself & bring the whole family with you too because you don't want to buy a set with SDE that may really bother someone else especially the other half because then you'll never hear the end of it. If it's just you & the SDE doesn't bother you then I would grab the Pioneer 42" before they are all gone.

Another thing I usually tell people, especially when buying 42" models is, do you really need a Top-Of-The-Line model if your going to be just throwing it in a bedroom for casual tv watching? If it's going to be your main tv then yes Top-Of-The-Line all the way, if you can afford it).

What does it mean if all you can see is her nipples?

For 9th gen, no.

For 10th gen and later? I say, if Pioneer really does end up sourcing glass from Panasonic (which is heavily rumored but not confirmed yet AFIAK) then its at least reasonably plausible. Also, while Panasonic is currently the only one of the five plasma glass manufacturers that does 1080p 42", that could change. Then, even if Pioneer goes elsewhere for their glass they still may have access to 42" 1080p glass.

I tried to focus and change her direction and I failed  I use my left side too.If i focus on the shadow i can get get it to change to counter-clockwise then if i concentrate on that rotation the girl changes to counter-clockwise as well, but if i lose concentration (ie: focus on those nipples) then she reverts back to clockwise ;)

To stay on topic, if you want a 42" pioneer buy quick, even some online dealers are running dry. Now what I want to say...

That lady is spinning clockwise. Period. I have stared for so long I'm surprised the nips have yet to poke out my eyes and I can't even fathom how it's supposed to turn counter-clockwise (do people really say anti-clockwise? please say no) nor how it ever would.

Hahaha! that was great.

The only time I see the SDE on my 42" pioneer is when I am 4 feet away, other then that I can't see it at all. I would assume the vast majority of users can't see it. I highly doubt anyone can see the difference at 12 feet away, unless you have binoculars.

You're probably right. It seems that LCD's at the same size are sharper than the Plasma for some reason. Shouldn't it be a 768p model since it's either 1366x768/1024x768 before the 1080p models came out. I guess my Pio PDP-4330HD lacks HDMI input on the media box.

Interesting... I meant does the back of the panel actually say "Made in Japan", also are the boxes as big as it was like the PDP-4330HD which was like just big!

I wonder if when Pio sources glass from Panasonic, will the quality still be atleast as good as the previous Pio's since I thought Pio was the one who started with the 1024x768p originally at 43" but later when Panasonic went from 852x480 to 1024x768p in the 42", Pio dropped the 43" and went with 42". It seems in the old days, Panasonic was better with lights off while Pio was better with lights on as Panasonic had better blacks, is this still the case?

hate to bump up an old thread, but isnt Panasonic one of only ONE manufacter that makes a 42" 1080p display? i didnt think anyone else did.

Sorry, my wording was apparently a bit ambiguous. Although if you look at the context surrounding the part that you bolded, you can pretty safely remove all ambiguity IMHO. Still, let me try something a little different:

Of the five manufacturers that currently produce plasma glass, only Panasonic has a 42" 1080p panel.
