Not really no, if you have a 1080i CRT. Motion will look better than most 1080p flat panel sets anyway.

You are missing out on 1080/24p though, but that's not that big a deal.

IMO the difference between 1080i and p is negligible with sets under 40" or so. It also depends on how close you sit.

Main thing with a CRT is to get your calibrations, especially for geometry and overscan, set up so you are seeing the whole picture distortion-free.

Yeah if your happy with the size and you have a good tube, Sony or even Panasonic you're not missing much. In fact your display is probably better than the vast majority of LCDs.

Actually, a CRT is the WORST tech for resolution. Most CRT HDTVs will resolve somewhere between 800x600 and 1024x768 pixels cleanly, nowhere near 1280x720, much less 1920x1080.

Resolution is only one determinant of HDTV quality. Widescreen CRTs will output 1080 x 850 (approximately) in a 3x4 window. I forget what the extrapolated horizontal resolution is, I calculated it once and promptly forgot how to. It's around 1400 or so. But they will indeed resolve all pixels of a 720x1280 input.

Sony and Panasonic both made super high def tubes that would resolve full 1080x1920, but they're rare.

Only the Super Fine Pitch tubes will. A regular ol' 970 is 853x1080i or so. Other CRTs are even lower..

The 960 and 955 do 1400x1080i.
