I'm shopping for a 50" plasma, my first HDTV. I've been watching a Sony 32" Trinitron for 11 years and the glass on that thing is about as glossy as can be. I've never thought much about glare until researching plasmas. My bonus room has one window perpendicular to the TV. On a sunny afternoon, I close the drapes to reduce the sunlight.
The plasma screens I've seen in stores don't look any glossier than my Trinitron's (when turned off). Is there something about plasmas that make the glare issue more relevant (vs. a CRT), or is this just another over-hyped issue in the LCD vs. Plasma debate?
Thanks!

I think it's an over-hyped issues.
I normally watch TV in near darkness... but my plasma is fine with all the lights on.

It's been my experience that the CRTs typically have more glare than the latest plasmas. I just bought a 50" Panny pz85u and it has more glare than the LCD it replaced but it's really not an isuue. The Pannys come with an anti-glare filter. I have my plasma in a room with a lot of daylight from windows and it is not a major problem.

Here's an old thread (below) that should clear things up. And note that the current Panasonics for instance are a little less reflective than my PX50U is so things have improved since that thread.....

Thanks for the replies. As I suspected, if I've not been worried about glare/reflections from my CRT, no need to worry about it with a new plasma.

The "Anti-Glare Filter" was only used on the PX77U and PZ77U series (both are 2007 models and discontinued). Panasonic has subsequently dropped the AG Filter and is not using it on any 2008 models, probably due to complaints and lots of people returning them for models with the more traditional AR screen. The new 2008 AR screen gives a good balance between clarity and reflectivity.

Randy, You're right. I misspoke. I meant to say mine has the anti-reflective filter rather than the the anti-glare. There is a difference.
