To All,

I know much of what I'm asking is probably redundant as it is listed in many threads, I also apologize if this is not posted in the proper area.

However I am about to tackle the LV-prewiring of my HT, and have a few questions:

1) Despite looking at many suppliers I am having trouble finding a supplier of the larger flexible Caralon conduit - SMURFTUBE. I have found several places to buy the orange 2" stuff, but am looking for 3" or larger for the run to my PJ?

2) I am in a 20 yr old home and am going to use this opportunity (before the drywall goes up) to make an attempt to clean up some wiring by pulling some "home-runs" to a structured wiring box in my Eq room. I won't be able to home run from every room - but I do want to be able to accomdate the following: Antenna and satellite feeds, phone wiring, cat5 network wiring. Anyone have favorite reccomendation for a structured wiring box?

3) any other LV tips - before I drywall this area ???

Thanks,

According to Carlon, the Resi-gard (orange smurf) is only available up to 2". http://www.carlon.com/Flexible%20Raceway/ResiGard_Features_Benefits.html

Looking a little further, it appears 2" is the largest for any flex-conduit. Why are you looking for so big? I would think 2" should be plenty to your PJ.

cw_racefan,

Thanks for the quick response.

I could have sworn that I previously had seen some 3" blue flexible material on here somewhere before, but then again - maybe not....

To answer your question - I want to have the maximum flexibiity to my PJ (HDMI x2, component, Cat5, etc. I guess I can run two of the 2" tubes (or hardwire what I can predict and then add an empty 2" orange tube for future proofing).

By chance have you (or anyone reading this) had any expereince with structured wiring boxes? Just got back from HD and they carry Leviton, 14" and 28" that look reasonable. Wondering if you or anyone out there might have a favorite to reccomend...?

Just run your initial cables outside of the smurf tube and use the tubing for future proofing. Then 2" is more than enough.

Cathan,

Thanks - I believe this will indeed be my direction. Time now to order the orange tube, then to Monoprice for CL (in wall) rated HDMI and component cabling.

Another question - by chance are you using any of the structured wiring products? If so any favorite brands or tips

i just ran two lines to my PJ of the 2 inch orange stuff. used one for existing wires and left the other open. my runs were only 12 feet though. since i had to buy 50' i had plenty to do this. later.

I picked up my innerduct from a local data/communications installation company and was able to get it priced per foot.

Of course, I asked for 75 feet, used 75 feet and still have 25 feet left over. Saved a lot of money on shipping when I found it locally.
