My grandfather recently bought me a Phillips 42' from Sam club. I must admit I don't know jack when it comes to Tv's. Besides just resolution and barely that.

I am a heavy gamer and I am worried about leaving the print of the image of games on my Tv. I only have a Wii i know the Wii has built in Burn reduction, but that is only if you pause the game. What about other things that stay on the screen while playing..

For the first 100 hours you probably shouldn't play any games. After that you won't have to worry about burn-in, most people are saying 10+ hours needed for burn in. It's not hard to make sure the same image isn't playing for 10 hours.

You might get some IR (kinda temporary burn in) that will go away after playing some other content or doing a white wash.

Well too late for the whole 100 hours... I read one of the threads about keeping your contrast and brightness at a good level. I tried doing that but it keeps reseting itself when I turn my tv back on..

I have one of the options set to where it wont change, but i can't keep the brightness and contrast locked..

I say i am probably about 15 hours in to breaking in the TV..

Hey thanks for the quick response...

Wii has anti-burn in mode.
Send 480p from wii via component cable to get the best possible picture.

I have been playing guitar hero 3 on the wii, with a pioneer 1150 tv. I have had no ir problems yet, I just make sure I watch the equivalent full screen tv, after playing a game. eg. 2 hours of GH,=2 hours of full screen tv watching

If your TV keeps resetting the settings everytime you turn it off, it is probably still in Demo, or Store mode. See if you can change it to home mode somehow. Store mode is designed to crank the settings all the way up, so it catches the customers attention when they walk by it.

Be weary of supposed widescreen wii-games that don't fill up the screen. I
don't have any IR issues with my Wii, but I own a Pioneer 8G while your TV
might not be as good at combatting IR. Be safe for the first 200 or so hours.

By the way, for the record, I often played games in 4:3 mode for 1-2 hr periods
and no issues. However, it's all dependent on the TV itself.
