Why am I not seeing the black pillar bars
when watching "A Passage to India" on BD?
The movie is supposed to be in 1.66:1....
I play it on a 80GB PS3 with a Panasonic
AE2000 1080p projector, on a 133" Da-Lite
High Power Screen from 18 feet away. I just
checked my settings and overscan is set to
zero.
Thanks for any info! :)

Overscan? TV set to Full or Stretch?
FWIW, DVDFile.com reports that they see it as 1.66:1 w/pillarboxing.

I am seeing slight pillar bars on the sides using my Infocus 7200 with a 96inch Draper screen. The aspect ratio appears to be about 1.7 (haven't measured exactly but I used to be a projectionist).
I suspect that you have some overscan at some point in your system.

I got the bars on my setup. 10% overscan would probably hide them, somebody else could do the math on it to make sure.

1.66 is in between 1.77 and 1.33 Since 16x9 is 1.77 I am sure anything lower should should show blax pillars. Just ass anything on a properly set up TV above 1.77 should show the bars at the top an bottom.

Even 5% overscan is enough to hide the bars on pillarboxed 1.66:1.
