Theres an ongoing topic in the ps3 forum about us with 5.1 setups wether we should select 7.1.

Now I tried it out with some 7.1 tracks in movies and with 7.1 selected, the volume was much lower, with much less bass, and fullness.

With only up to 5.1 selected the sound, sounded proper, bass rumbled, all speakers sounded full like there suppose to.

Some people were questioning on GT5P for instance which handles 7.1 lpcm, and they feel if they dont have 7.1 selected there getting 5.1 dolby digital.

Does anyone have any input on this, I feel 7.1 should not be selected unless you have a 7.1 setup, some people are disagreeing, and it might be difference in avr's? All I can assume is when my receiver gets 7.1 it tries to mix the missing channels in. And with 5.1 selected it sends proper audio to the channels i have dropping the extra 2. The only conclusion I can make so far with movies is with 7.1 selected it did not sound nearly as good on my 5.1 setup.

Any input on this would help alot.
