View Full Version : 2L Sampler disc
maphiker 04-25-08, 07:20 AM I recently placed an order through Acoustic Sounds. Included in my order, unbeknownst to me, was a 2L sampler disc. The disc, entitled "2L the Nordic Sound," is a CD version of 17 SACD recordings. The sound of these CD versions is superb. I would think the SACD versions would be even better.
The sampler disc is a great idea because the disc allows us to hear a sample of the type of music on the SACD discs before we buy them.
I have not listened to the entire sampler disc, but based on what I have heard thus far, I will certainly be purchasing some of the SACD discs! For those of us in the USA, I suggest purchasing them from Acoustic Sounds or other US sellers.
The disc can be ordered free of charge on the 2L site. http://www.2l.no/sampler2007/
SoonerCaniac 04-25-08, 09:14 AM Thanks for the great link maphiker; I've often wondered about the music from 2L but haven't yet taken the plunge. With the upcoming Blu-Ray/SACD release and the great SACDs already out there it looks like the sampler disc will allow me to get a feel for this music first. . .excellent!
Thanks again!
Josh
gaderson 04-27-08, 10:41 AM Just took a look through their Amazon.com link, and the first album that popped up has Bartok's Contrasts (being a Clarinet player), one of my favorite pieces (originally heard it performed by Larry Combs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Combs) of the CSO), so even before getting the sampler, I'll certainly be getting one of the albums.
Now I've got to see what jazz they've been doing.
SoonerCaniac 05-07-08, 11:26 AM My sampler disc arrived yesterday, looking forward to giving it a spin. The provide a pretty generous list of songs, 17 total, and several lengthy pieces.
Thanks again for the find,
Josh

Yep, arrived this week--a cool black CD that is made to look like a little LP--and some very interesting tracks. Will certainly be adding 2L to the list of labels for me to look out for:
The Bartók solo violin was cool (really need to get the 'Contrasts' recording), the Julevariasjoner was very familiar (my church's music does come from the Swedish Luthern tradition). But, the Islandsmoens: REQUIEM (http://www.2l.musiconline.no/shop/displayAlbum.asp?id=31153) was the best of the bunch, will need to play it during the day so I can crank it up, though in surround should be amazing.
Need to see what their Jazz repertoire is--thinking of the Scandanavian Trios: Tord Gustavsen, Esbjörn Svensson, etc.
p.s. currently listening to Chanticleer's "Magnificat"

I just listened to the entire sampler disc. I absolutely agree, Islandsmoens: REQUIEM blew me away!
UT-Driven 05-09-08, 12:45 AM Thanks to this forum thread, I ordered the sampler a bit ago. I hope that it has arrived at home, I have been away for a few weeks.
I look forward to checking it out!
Doug
