I have a 7.1 speaker layout so far and the only place i seem to be able to mount my surround speakers are a couple of inches in front of my seating positions, so can i do this?
or is there a way that i can mount these speakers where there are no studs?
thanks

Fit the surrounds to all the walls side and rear in [horseshoe configuration] it’s really simple use the same brand and model.
First move the seating forwards its simple just move it away from the back wall! My sofa is about 4 feet away from the back, with the surrounds diagonal sound pointing down at close to 6 feet. The sidewall arrays are about 4 ½ each side is balanced and timbre matching is wondrous.
If you what to use stacks along the sidewall remember the impedance and wire them in series same goes with the centre back and remember to have fun.:)
Make sure the surrounds are pointing downwards, into the seating area!

If you are mounting the speakers to dry wall in a place where there are no studs, you can use wall anchors:http://www.doityourself.com/stry/installwallanchors

Hmmm, I’ve even fitted the JBL control 1 to the ceiling in the other room before switching, changing rooms for the larger room. There lightweight and the screws bit into that wood thingy that runs between the plasterboard and the attic, held nicely.
Some manufactures are so tight they don’t supply mounting brackets, the JBL control 1 are versatile and easy to install and offer a fine surround and they are also used in the smallest Empire screen 3 at London, now then!:)
And you guys thought that I was getting obnoxious with my M&K rants...........lol !

I thought M&K wasn’t a bad sound sub bass when hearing the odd one now and then at local Hi-Fi store called Suttons Hi-Fi Westover Road, Bournemouth, back in the mid 1990’s. Yes there no longer about. RIP.:(

Yeah. Sad really. It was really nice in dealing with a small, local manufacturer.
They're trying to be resurrected in Denmark, but it seems to be going awfully slow.
I remember when JBL was a small, privately held local company too. Had to go down to the factory many years ago to get a replacement driver and got a free tour just because they were nice and had some time on their hands.
