first 2 are must sees. 3rd one is not as good imo but gives the trilogy closure. 2nd one was very reminiscent of godfather for me.

Oh S&#%. You proved the pimp in sneakerpimp. I guess I'll start saving my pennies.
What is that promo thing from?

Is that "Exiled" listed, the Exiled I think it is? The one with the shooting and such?
If it is, then I want to see it.

I'm actually drooling over that box. Take that Godfather, Jack will probably be out in HD more quickly.
Nearly Half(well a lot anyway) of my BDs are in boxes, freaking cool.

yes that is exiled. I'll be getting at least 6 of the above titles. Is there a release dates for these?
I thought that the 3rd theatrical version a let down, but the directors version much better. The film has quite a bit of subtles that requires more than one viewing and some thinking. The directors cut provides a resolution for Leon Lai's and Chen Dao Ming's characters. I believe the DC is superior.

A chinese odyssey is an excellent comedy. Its actually 2 separate films. It looks like this is a boxset too, I assume.
Days of being wild and As Tears go by, are both by Wong Kar Wai which means artsy films.
The warlords is pretty good too, wartime film.
Infernal affairs is worth checking out.
Perhaps love is a decent love story movie, but I like it more for the singing by Jacky Cheung.

I too held out on the Warlords for bluray.

so far haven't seen any blu releases from edko. i believe they had both dvd releases of Hero and The Banquet.

since i already bought the first infernal and pre-ordered the third. i'll probably just buy the 3 separately. do we know if the trilogy will be different like it was for the 3 separate movies? i remember the trilogy dvd set had better quality for at least the first movie and also featured something else different from the 3 separate movies. someone please elaborate on this as i may cancel the pre-order and wait for the box.

Just took a quick scan of the title and it is a step above the SD DVD but I found the PQ a little softer than I would like, but still good. This was the weakest of the 3 but since I had the first one, I went and ordered the this. Soundtrack is pretty good with DTS-MA 6.1.

Overall a decent title. I will watch in its entirety over the weekend.

Watch the entire movie - PQ is good, but certainly not top tier. I found it a little softer than usual. Certainly better than the SDVD. The soundtrack is good and has a pretty good punch when the situation calls for it. Those of you that have seen it know there is a lot of dialog and flashbacks here and is certainly not an "all action" like the others. This is probably the weakest of the 3 but when IA2 comes out, I will have to get that one and complete the trilogy.

I've been ordering from dddhouse for more than 7 years with no problems, got my first copy of Crouching Tiger there long, long ago.

That IA Trilogy box is a great deal, about $20 cheaper than buying them separately. I didn't care for IA3, but if I didn't have 1 & 2 already I would buy the box.

It's interesting that the original IA offered a PCM track, but the new ones don't. They do have lossless in the form of DTS-MA, but for those who can't use that it might be an issue. I'm glad the PS3 now supports DTS-MA so I could listen to the lossless audio on IA2 yesterday.

It's nice that we seem to be getting a relatively steady flow of Asian cinema on Blu-ray. Much more than I had anticipated this early on.

Liersi
05-16-08, 05:23 AM
Recieved IA 2 and 3 yesterday and had a quick look. Keep your expectations low ladies and gents. Low bitrate AVC shows soft, DVNR'd and EE'd images with little fine detail. They barely justify their existence in the Blu realm thanks to excellent 6.1 DTS-HD MA sound (worth the upgrade alone for me), although the picture does satisfy the better-than-DVD minimum. It just doesn't go very far beyond it.

Artistic intent is an unlikely culprit here, the DVNR and EE scream 'video'. If I had to guess I'd say they're older HD masters from back when these films came out and were first transferred to DVD. HK has made great strides in their DVD production in the last few years, but they're not quite up to the highest standard and were even less so a few years back. Transferred to Blu these masters show their overzealous tuning for SD and lack of definition.

More recent films like Protege or Invisible Target feature much improved definition but still retain the noise reduction and EE problems. 1 down, 1 to go. Wonder when they'll get out of the squeaky clean phase that gives every recent HK movie on Blu the lovely texture of smooth baby butt. I'm glad they're putting these out there now, and I'm buying to show it, but it's becoming clear that new transfers will have to be done even for recent stuff to get the most out of high-def.

Just watched Assembly. Not a bad flix. I wasn't even sure what audio was cause I it said on it was DTS. Playing on my 3800 I was pleasantly surprised to see the DTS MA light up and the audio track on this movie has quite a punch on the lower sprectrum during the battle scenes. Not quite the same rumble as SPR during that tank scene but still pretty good. The battle scenes look a little washed out in color but that I am sure was the intent of the appearance.

They are the same box sets. I don't know which cover is the correct one, but my guess is dvdasian. As to region coding, if all HK Blu-ray to date has been region free. dddhouse ships from HK whereas dvdasian is based in US and ships from CA. Both are very reliable companies and I have purchased many, many movies from them.

Is DDD House a safe company to buy from? The prices are a lot better than YesAsia and I would buy from them, but you know what they say, if the things are too good to be true, then it may just be...
DDDHouse are more than reliable.

Do you guys know of any other source besides DDD House and Yesasia that sells HK DVDs? I'm also trying to find the HK version of the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony. So far the versions that I have found are the mainland and NBC versions.

Don't believe these ratings folks. Drop the PQ ratings by about 3 points each and you have numbers that are closer to expectation for most new Blu-ray releases.
