I just got a Canon Vixia HF100, which is a very light weight camera, and I'm using a borrowed Slik 6000 or 3000, I can't remember exactly, but my problem is that it is too light and it really doesn't hold the camcorder very still. For example, my hand vibration, if I'm zoomed all the way or near that, shows on the recording.

So what I need is a tripod that is heavier, while not excessively so, because among other things I like to go to lakes and walk around stopping at different places to grab some video. So I want a tripod that will allow me to carry it for 3 miles without being too heavy.

I would like something around $100, I know that wouldn't give me something too professional, but I can't afford more than that.

Thanks,

Sebastian,

I would go and check out the tripods at different camera stores to see what will work best for you. 3 miles with the wrong tripod could become very bothersome.

For my main tripod, I use a SLIK 504QF II, which I have modified the center column to get more height, and I use it for a two camera setup sometimes.

Its a robust tripod, it doesn't have quick connects on the legs, but the fluid pan head, pans and tilts very smoothly. Samys Camera carries it.

I would like to try it, the problem is that there are no SLIK dealers in my area (Raleigh, NC) and for something as bulky as a tripod, I don't want to buy it online and then realize that I don't like it, because returning it would be a hassle. I want something that I can go buy.

Both Circuit City and Best Buy carry a heavy duty Sunpak, but I read many reviews from people saying that they often come broken inside the box, which doesn't inspire me a lot of confidence.

Anybody has more recommendations?

Perhaps the light-weight tripod for carrying around and the remote control for anti-shake? It will be tricky to deal with high wind but isn't it always?

I just bought a lightweight tripod thats 60" from Buy.com for $10.00 with free shipping. Now I know you usually get what you pay for but I just got the Canon HF-100 and need a small lightweight tripod. We'll see if it's any good when I get it.

I got a "Sunpak" from bhphotovideo.com for around $50 which is superb along with a built in level. I'd highly recommend this brand which provides a sturdy, collapsible frame that holds the camera stable.
