Using a ps3 with Toshiba 32" crt tv (model 32ZP18Q). I live in the UK so pal ps3 and TV running at 50hz, ps3 connected using standard av leads, display is 576i
Before I used a dvd player and never had a problem.
Now using PS3 for blu-ray and xvid/divx programs and after a couple of mins watching something I feel my eyes getting sore, I plan to get a plasma in about 4 months but in the mean time do you have any idea why this is happening or settings I can change on ps3 or tv to help this/
My tv has progressive input, would this be better for connecting the ps3 ?
Cheers

On my old Samsung HDTV, progressive did give a noticably brighter picture, but I never bothered to figure out why. If your TV accepts 60Hz progressive, that would seem to be a solution.
In any case, your problem is what 100Hz CRT televisions were made to solve. I don't know how long they were produced, however; I'm in the states. I couldn't even guess whether they add perceptible lag to a PAL console, or what kind of price they command.

My first thought too was "50 Hz". That should be low enough to cause some headaches after a while.

If 50Hz was especially bad the entire PAL world would be reaching for the asprin.
There's something about many 100Hz PAL TVs that gives them an annoying fickery quality. I've seen the effect on a number of them including my own Panasonic. It may be that the phosphors were designed for 120Hz use and they're decaying too fast, but that's just my hypothesis.
I don't even try to remedy it and run my CRT is progressive scan all the time.

Some people are more sensitive than others.

Yes, a THOUSAND times better.
Got a component cable today, tried to get the ps3 to output 576p, all I get is a blank screen, I am starting to think this tv may not do progressive (pic of port below)
In the setting menu, I have scan mode "Natural or 100hz", I find that on 100hz mode I notice a very slight flicker.
As for the 50hz issue, watching transmission tv or dvd's on my player, no issues, but start watching a dvd using the ps3 and after a couple on mins I get eye strain, the weird thing is there is no visible flicker, I can't understand what going on, I assume it has some thing to do with the refresh rate.
The tv is at least 5 years old, it may be time to get something new

Doesn't look like your TV will take a 576p input.
