I guess since the MMDTVB03 thread is now closed this will be the thread about the new box which if they fill their promise will be out in 2 months. I left my order as is just in case, heck you never know.

Thanks for opening a thread with the (proposed) new model number.

The last new thread about the new model got closed due to people screwing around and not taking things seriously... I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, probably called a collaborator, or a shil, or some stupid thing...but that mentallity around here is beginning on get on my nerves...

Poor mosquito taking a hit from that idiot put me over the top too. that was just crap. He's as legit as it gets.

I am not defending either of the company names involved. They have handled this in a despicable, and probably illegal way !!!

Like many I am watching and waiting, I have two cards that expire 06-13-08 so there is still time for me, and one person at least has received the substitue box so it can't be a total sham. I will not order until I see at least one person actually get one and review it though.

There is only one other box that meets my personal needs and I'm not happy with it. Not this model so I'm not going to mention make/model.

Has anyone confirmed anything about this one?

Is this our MMDTVB02 manufacture?

I could have sworn the RF jacks were on opposite ends when I looked a few weeks back, now they are side-by-side like they originate from the same tuner can  !

I have emailed Sunny, but no reply so far. Will post if I get one.

All I can ask is that people stay on topic (unlike that last thread!), please!

Anyway I hope we get our box. When do you suggest the e-mail campaign should begin?

i would guess it's because the MMDTVB03 will never reach the shelf and things were getting a little crazy. now the MMDTVB02 is the new box just like the TR-40 thread should be closed for the DTVPAL box.

In my persuit of the ever elusive DK box, I see that they manufacture a whole lot of various tuners
http://www.asia.ru/Catalog/?page=5&category_id=2062 (Scroll Half Way Down)
http://www.asia.ru/ProductInfo/197715.html

If these guys can do this, I believe the CECB box I refered to above should turn out well. Seeing how as the layout of the board is the same as what MaxMedia proposes, and we know they aren't really making it...

I remember a post in the previous models posts from someone that did finally get a picture of the proposed remote that this one looked just like it.
http://www.dk-tvtech.com/yellowpage/product_1033.jpg
That box contains an analog tuner as well, so that one wont be NTIA approved... Wah!

/RantOn
Does NTIA expect us to give up our low power churches, colleges, and public broadcasts so they can push their digital-agenda? Sheeesh...
Remember, pass-through DOES NOT result in significant loss if it is SWITCHED within, NOT SPLIT within. That has been a misunderstood topic in many threads here sadly. Yes, I am an electronic technician...
So you see, NTIA COULD have made it mandatory if a "certain company" hadn't so severely misinformed the commity in the beginning.

Interesting that CMTV now says "on backorder" instead of "unavailable at this time" or however it was worded when they switched box numbers. "Backorder" is hardly the word for a product that isn't released yet, or CECB approved. If CMTV came off the CECB approved list pending investigation by NTIA's legal counsel, that would explain why the main site is closed to newcomers. It appears that all they are doing right now is sending out Sansonics to people whose coupons they prematurely redeemed.

If June is real, that would be fast work. Has any other box make it to market within two months of being approved?

Ok, so those who used their coupons early can only select from the sansonic box right ? I think that may be the 02 is a upgrade of the 03 and may be mostly/partly approved already... I have no clue really, just guessing ! Anyhow- lets see what arrives in June. I mean we have until Feb 09 to be safe, true ?

circuit77 wants to know employee counts. That's all in the original MaxMedia thread so it won't be repeated here. You posted there before. Have a good read.

But you are the one holding out on us!! You said of the MM-02 : "All reports have it as a well built and fully spec'd box." This is totally amazing!!! You have a scoop, here. Links to all reports, please!!

Does this mean someone had a prototype MM02 and tested and reported on it, and the build quality? Link, please!

Does this mean someone got hold of the actual specs on this box from the mfg? Wow, that is not even accessible on the MM website yet. There was a space reserved for MM03 product spec sheet, but the product was pulled before the specs saw the light of day.

What a coup, more than one report, even. Waiting for links!

To be fair, if the 02 box do indeed materialize in June, it would be the best deal amongst all retailer. By all means, where else can you find a box with smart antenna, analog pass thru, s-video, universal remote, plus free shipping, for $59.99? If you shop around, you will realize that a box with comparable features can cost around $79.99 plus shipping.

I am betting $20 and one coupon on this box. If it turns out otherwise, so be it. In the meantime, I bought a DigitalStream7500. It only comes with a universal remote. I can now clearly watch shows like Lost on digital, which I cannot see via analog, while waiting for the 02 box ...

No links, just a personal opinion (as is permitted in this thread) of what I think the box will be like.

After reviewing all other options I do believe that the MM box will be sufficient for my needs. I mean these guys seem OK, once you see past the "public defamation" of them by unknowns.

Nobody says you can't have a personal opinion. But it is one thing to state "I believe this box will be a well built and a fully spec'd box" and quite another to say "All reports have it as well built and fully spec'd."

Don't relax so much you forget the difference between opinion and research, eh?

Thanks you... now we are finally getting somewhere!! I realise.. research (factual research and opinion are different.... I think we all do)

So you pick up on little words that are my common speak! "by all reports" is a common phrase of mine, and yes just may be you were sensitive to that..

meaning ... the original thread on the 03 stated and sung the praises of the 03, and I thinks that the 02 will be similar-ish... so eg. That was a report! Yes here in AV forums.. see what I mean !

having no dealt with max media I am obviously not as sensitive towards them as you. So dont hand me out over, an opinion. ... cool

Yeah Kelson,

They got pre-order screwed by a pair of questionable critters posing as companies. For the record, the original box (MMDTVB03) does exist. Scroll up and you'll see the company that makes it. I am awaiting a single-unit quote. Plus a few answers about the actual unit.

No, thats not a typo btw. The "Newer" unit said critters propose to sell actually has a lower model number (MMDTVB02).

To appreciate what these guys have gone through with those marketing idiots, go read the original (locked) MMDTVB03 thread. They've all been yanked around and lied to from the beginning...

Myself, I have two coupons I will use the day before 06-13-08 on whatever exist in real space at that time that I like. But I may get one of the boxes in my above posts at cost (without coupon discount) because it has all I want.

After reviewing all other options I do believe that the MM box will be sufficient for my needs. I mean these guys seem OK, once you see past the "public defamation" of them by unknowns. I suspect circuit77 is related to orangetang (a suspected employee of MaxMedia). Just my opinion (as is permitted in this thread).

As for public defamation, it is well-deserved. Here are the facts:

- The company promised the box would be available for March 3rd.
- They pushed it back to the 4th. Then the 5th. Then the 6th.
- Finally people were able to order it circa March 12.
-
- Then people discovered they had been LIED to. The unit they thought they had BOUGHT and would soon arrive at their door, was no longer available. Instead the customers received emails saying "will be mailed-out in April."
- Then that date was pushed back to May.
- And then that date was pushed back to June, and the 002 model was substituted.

So MaxMedia committed several mistakes in customer service, plus two possible crimes (cashing-in coupons and not delivering hardware) (plus bait-n-switch). If MaxMedia is defamed, it is through their OWN ACTIONS, not from anything we innocent bystanders have done.

You may say "these guys seem ok" but I sure as hell don't agree with that opinion. Based upon the facts just enumerated, they seem the polar opposite of "okay" and I won't be handing them a single penny..... not until I see a box in somebody's hands and they report back that they are happy. Only then will Maxmedia have redeemed themselves in my eyes.

Until then I consider them about as trustworthy as an Enron CEO.

I have just sent a second request for a bulk dealer quote and confirmation the ''Optional'' features will be in the US shipped models.

I am not going to touch the MaxMedia topic, Pointless to do so.

But I will ask AFTER they have shipped me a unit (out of my own pocket / no coupon applied) if they were the original manufacturer, and why they blew-off those guys. I'm sure we all can figure out why, I'm sure they wanted the dough up front rather than extend a line of shippers credit to those jokers...

I will also post here that I started a new thread and reference it with a link if I do confirm not to be ''Said'' unit

Don't get me wrong, I am 99% sure this was to be one of those MaxMedia model numbers. But I am hesitant to start a new thread for it until I actually have one in hand to review...

I hope this meets with everyones approval?

Oh, and give Solomon a break. It is obvious his native language is not english, but I am happy to just have an open line of communication with a Taiwan manufacture at all at this point. He's doing the best he can at Twinglish (Taiwanese>English).

take a peek at the attached PDF above and tell me what you think if you have a moment.

It can freeze-frame lol.

channel scan overwrites (instead of adds), but manual add can be seen.

now next EPG only...

At least they were nice enough to warn of the 4-Hr auto-off on first page!

Remote uses a code available in newer universal remotes.

Has themes, transparancies, and a service menu.

RS-232 port for software upgrades.

Some funny typo's 180i/480p, etc.
amd get a hoot out of the programs on the fake EPG lol.
Clearly an American had something to do with that...
Anyone know where KTVT-DT D-11.1 is?

I will be thinking/collecting questions until Monday,
then I will write and ask them all:

Confirm manual add for channels (I see '''manual' on menu pic)
Confirm unwanted channels can be skipped/removed
Confirm negative chassis ground on 5V jack
Confirm available output formats, 480P IS LISTED (Deemed ''Display'' format), but specs say 480i
Confirm Pass-Through (Menu Type? / Power-off type?)
Confirm Who pas the royalties (TI, MPEG, Dolby)
Contirm adjustment for upcomming Chinese labor laws increase

(Note: CECB does not appear anywhere in the manual, could go either way,
but S-Video limits would be useless after 480i and most likely progressive
may not display correctly through any of these jacks ...)
(If you do this for a living, please advise?)

Any questions to add ???

You think all this MaxMedia stuff if funny check this out. oh my god i just wrote summit and this is what they said

Me:has the Channel Master CM-7000 come in stock yet
Summit Source: Channel Master called us to let us their boat from the factory was delayed in Bulgaria, and that we'll be receiving the boxes from them the week of May 19th. We'll ship them out to our customers the day they hit our doorstep.

who the hell makes electronics in Bulgaria. Why do i feel all the manufactures boxes that are to be released in June are on this ship. I feel we have a good chance of seeing a MaxMedia box in June as promised. The goverment is on their butts now and the only saving grace is to bring a box to market for them.

I've tried several times with IzArc, but I can't get part 2 to extract, even after downloading it a second time.

Part 1 was successful though, so I've been able to glance through at least part of the user manual. The Magnavox converter also has freeze-frame capability, though I've yet to see anyone bring it up in a forum or review. I found out through a friend who redeemed her coupon at Wal-Mart for the Magnavox.

Overall, I'm not very impressed with what I've seen in part 1 of the manual...it's not enough to make me want to hang onto my last coupon and order the MaxMedia, once it makes it to market. The menus look badly outdated, though I suppose the actual production box might be better. These could simply be poorly done illustrations.

The remote looks somewhat plain, though not the worst I've seen...and I hate the idea of having to deal with yet another AC adapter. The S-Video addition, though, is a welcome feature, but over here it's not essential. Because of connector limitations in the den, the Zenith converter that I purchased runs first through my JVC S-VHS VCR...and that deck does a marvelous job cleaning up a composite video signal. Once a composite video signal exits via the S-video out jack on the JVC, jagged edges and dot crawl are completely gone.

BTW, the basic channel scan with the Zenith overwrites completely as well, but there is also an "add channel" scan that simply searches and adds anything new to the list that was already stored in memory.

If they say no, I'll discontinue posting here and start a thread with a seperate name in respect of the PPO's (People with Pending Orders).

But I think you'll agree it is one, expecialy if you scroll through the old thread and look at the remote pic sent to someone directly by email. Connector layout is identical as is the faceplate button layout. case is different.

After nearly a month of "silence" from CMTV, I decided to check on my "02" order status today. Surprisingly, their customer support is still alive...

"Public information will be posted on either the NTIA DTV2009.gov site, Maxmedia site, or Convert My TV site in the coming weeks. At this point, all I can say is that "things are going in a positive direction" ... keep in touch."
Sounds like they are re-appling to NTIA. I guess that is good, but I still feel June date will be missed. I just want my box I payed for. It should not be like this.

1 - Fully manufactured and available now.

2 - Don't know, won't ask (Until I have the first one in hand!)

3 - They will only go through dealers, I have to enter into a dealers
agreement to get the first box for technical review as example.

I'll just answer the next expected question...

Will I sell them, and can coupons be applied.

Sure, If the price with FOB is acceptable to all.
No, I am not an NTIA authorized dealer!

Don't get me wrong. I want the (Proposed) MaxMedia box.

I have two coupons good until 06-13-08.
One coupon will /may go to them if a product appears and they stop being so dodgy/aren't already indited for fraud...

But I am getting this first box out of pocket if reasonably priced just to have it. Screw the friggin coupons for the moment.

Then of course getting one of those smart antennas Hol_Ends reviewed/pulled apart for pics.

I will share my full review, supply a way-updated PDF for it, and provide technical details to whomever asks. But this is my experiment. And I just hope others benifit from it in some way.

Chances are I'll yield to a professional reseller like Mosquito that is already registered with the NTIA and drop-ship pallets to him if we even get that far. That would be way fairer to everyone on the FOB thingy.

But until I get one, and pass one to him for review too. That won't happen.

And even then, you'd have to want it without coupon is my guess, unless after I have one in hand I find the FCC-ID IS the one listed with NTIA as tested already ...

I'm going to repeat myself slightly to make sure I'm absolutely clear about my reasoning.

I worked in the marine electronics field for over 12 years. I am a factory certified technician for over 37 major brands as a board-level SMC warranty in field technician for up 200' vessals. All maner of things from radar and sonar to custom computers I had to make to tolorate the marine enviroment for mapping and navigation software driven my GPS locatiors...

All big ticket stuff.

And if I learned one thing about dealing with manufacturing companies, the one thing you never ever do is even dare mention the name of another dealer. It gets you blackballed fast.

Perhaps this answers the question you no doubt have as to why not ''just ask''. You DON'T just ask. I will make the MM connection when a box with a valid FCC-IS is in my hand and I have been to the FCC site to look it up. Chances are the answer will be right there on their application...

Once established and with a 1st piece of product in hand, I then can tactfully ask if I am ''stepping'' on the territory of any other dealers footprint and gently slip MaxMedia in as an example and judge the response. But the deal between them and MaxMedia IS a private business matter and frankly none of my biz in their eyes. Dealer to Manufacture agreements prohibit sharing info as a rule...

You see?

Sell them, if it helps a few people...

Only that I have to enter a dealers agreement facilitates that.

After my response to next weeks questions (confirming this is still a viable product for the US market) I may shoot Mosquito a heads up and see if he's interested in larger volume sales. That would be a more responsible thing to do.

Extending coupons
http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6559158.html?display=Breaking+News&referral=SUPP&nid=2228What I found most interesting about your link was the link contained within about the Wilmington NC test market. So, Wilmington NC is going to pull the plug on analog 6 months early on 9/8/08. They are doing this as an FCC test case so the FCC can see what a mess they are going to have on their hands come 2/09. Should be intersting to follow.

narkspud
05-10-08, 01:57 PM
Should be even more interesting than you think. The FCC's main reason for picking Wilmington (all stations at their final DT allotment at their final power level) isn't even slightly true. The NBC is having coverage problems, and has a CP for a stronger and closer transmitter location that can't even be set up until after the switch, and the CBS (a low power) doesn't even have their DTV on the air yet. Media reports to the contrary are from people who don't live in Wilmington like my parents do.

Also, the owners of the PBS station have "declined to participate" in the test, citing the fact that it's taking place in a coastal market in the middle of hurricane season. They fail to mention that it's merely a satellite for a statewide network originating in Chapel Hill, which is 150 miles away. I don't think they even have facilities to originate programming in Wilmington if a hurricane does come.

The commercial stations are fine with it because Wilmington has 91% cable/satellite penetration (and with a grand total of 7 broadcast TV signals, 3 of which are low power, who can blame them?).

And then there's the FCC's plans for the "test", which include inundating this small market with FCC staff, call centers, billboards, radio ads, seminars, presentations, booths at public events, pamphlet drops, skywriting, you name it. I wonder if Detroit, Houston and Portland get the same treatment in February?

And thus we have Chapter 2 of "The Greatest Wimp-out in the History of Congress."

seatacboy

And thus we have Chapter 2 of "The Greatest Wimp-out in the History of Congress." I'm sure when the GAO conducts a performance audit of the NTIA CECB program in late 2009, Convert My TV and MaxMedia will receive dubious mention.

One of the strangest parts of the 02/17/09 cutoff is that thousands of low-power stations - many of which don't provide local content but which simply retransmit ShopNBC, Jewelry TV, or Daystar - will continue broadcasting in analog.

About the 5 volt power jack issue:
I have contact with our RD, doulbe check again that our product also have negative ground.
I think there are many equiptments in the yacht/ car...etc, but our product is cooperate with monitor or TV.. etc.,
so the negative ground is OK, but if our product is combine or put with yacht motor or generator it may be produce
interference, so should be put into the correct place.
Express charge:
Maybe you can provide your DHL/ FEDEX NO. to me, and it is convenient to us.
Or should be wait until you have choose which accessory do you like then I can calculate its weight then to quote.

Solomon,

I hope your right about the negative ground chassis.
That is a deal breaker for the USA..

Anyone hooking a positive ground chassis
to a negative ground equipment in any way
can cause permanant damage.
(Even if properly fused, Ive seen it.)

I still have a few questions,
but let me respond to you first.

I need a test unit that has ALL features (Options).

Your product with be run on a regulated 12V-to-5V DC-switching supply,
Interference from voltage fluctuations and generator noise will not be a problem.

I would prefer you use your shipping account with insurance
to ship the first (single) test unit to me to evaluate.
I will pay for all costs up front before you ship.
I will open a full business account upon satisfactory test unit review.

Non-Technical questions:
A - Will these be duty-free in customs?

B - Are the royalties for MPEG, Dolby, TI already covered?

C - What FCC-ID number is on these units?

D - You have upcomming Chinese Labor-laws changes due. Does this quote reflect that increase?

Technical Questions:
The rest of my questions are simpler.
Although I will add these answers to the
re-written PDF manual for you to distribute
after I have fully evaluated your test unit,
I am hoping to get these answered now if I can.
1 - We experience television transmissions from more than one direction. You have an automatic scan that deletes all current channel information according to the PDF.
Can you manually add the second, third, and often fourth direction channel information after an antenna rotor turns the antenna to these other station directions?

2 - Once a full list is built, can channels that were undesirable during the first initial "Automatic" scan be removed from the channel lineup?

3 - Does the unit have the ability to pass-through the RF signals to retain current and post-2009transision analog signals?

Thank you for answers to all
Paul - OB's Sericves

Dear Paul:

Sorry to delay.
Below messages for your reference.

A - Will these be duty-free in customs?
As I know, ATSC import duty is during free~5%, why?

B - Are the royalties for MPEG, Dolby, TI already covered?
TI has including the MPEG and Dolby functions.
But the finished goods don't have the royalties because we are OEM manufacture, so our customer could use their brand in the model,
and to do the license action.

C - What FCC-ID number is on these units?
Yes, the model has pass FCC identification, so when we ship to U.S.A, we will add the no in the plastic case.

D - You have upcomming Chinese Labor-laws changes due. Does this quote reflect that increase?
No, only SMT parts produce in China, testing?assembly and key technology are in Taiwan. So, no reflect, because we are technology
orientation and still in Taiwan. Also don't have any plan to move to China.

1 - We experience television transmissions from more than one direction. You have an automatic scan that deletes all current channel information according to the PDF.
Can you manually add the second, third, and often fourth direction channel information after an antenna rotor turns the antenna to these other station directions?
Our antenna don't have the function, and can't achieve your goal.
Our product use many kinds of antenna in different market, for example: house/ car/ yacht. They are use not uniform antenna.
But I have find a company that have a new product can match your idea in the yacht.
I have attached the picture for your reference.

2 - Once a full list is built, can channels that were undesirable during the first initial "Automatic" scan be removed from the channel lineup?
We have do many times for testing the functions, if we can receive the signal and will be desirable to see.

3 - Does the unit have the ability to pass-through the RF signals to retain current and post-2009transision analog signals?
No, our product is only for digital signal.

By the way, may I ask a question?
Are there any power supply like 110 AC or 12V DC in the yacht?

Thank you for your support.

best regards
Solomon

Long read wasn't it...

PLEASE don't quote the whole thing in replies,
just the relevant parts to your responses.
It's just to long to do full quoted replies.

First, you'll note that royalties haven't been paid.
So I'm out.

They manufacture as OEM to have a dealer "Brand" them.
Best I understand, it would be illegal getting one
without me getting into a bonded royalty payment
agreement with Texas Instruments. Am I wrong guys?

I'm not concerned about the duty tariff of 5%

They really aren't getting the re-scan/add question on channels...

I didn't get an FCC number from them yet, but at least it was tested and passed.

I set out to find the manufacturer of the MaxMedia box.
I'm not going to touch the MaxMedia "dealer" topic directly.
But at this point I feel I DID find the box, it is real,
but I'm in no position to import and "Brand" it
much less do the whole bonded royalty thing...

Sorry guys, unless someone instructs me otherwise I'm going to drop this now...

My text (pasted/typed) on three different machines

Anyone else getting this error when posting?

WethePeople, yes, I get the "1 character" message when I paste in text as the reply. Using quick reply, don't know about the full reply. I think I get it whether I've added text outside the quoted/pasted material or not. But adding a word or short comment once I get the message, then it has always worked for me.

WeThePeople,

No offense, but by the time you get that box in USA. All or most of us would have spent our $40 Coupons. I plan to have all my boxes done in the next 4 weeks.

I do not plan to by a new one unless a box breaks and I need one.

You need to speak to a customs Clearer. In the USA about Duty laws. I never heard of Zero duty. But since i am no expert in that field. You need to call a Customs Broker.

Of course you also need a freight shipper. Since you are new I suggest you take the shippers advice and use who he uses at first or Use UPS or Fedex who now has freight forwarding.
Of course UPS? fedex do not do boat.

I wish you luck.

I think my mission has been misunderstood.

I will still buy a couple of Cripple-Ware boxes the week before my coupons expire. Whatever two are the least uselss/flawed at that time.

But what I want is a box with ALL the features. Admit it, you drooled to when you saw the feature list on MaxMedia too. But with all the dodgy behavior I decided to look for the actual manufacture of the box, NOT the reseller...

But I never had coupons in mind. I cannot get listed in time to redeem them. And had spoken to a retailer about reselling this box whom is already certified with NTIA to do so.

In my opinion I found the box. But I tire of all the red tape to get one.
I, and many here I believe, would gladly pay full price for a full featured box like this.

It is my opinion that the NTIA and Congress have perpetuated the worst scam of all. Puts the MaxMedia issue to shame what they have done to every nursing home, community village, rural route family with only a PO box as address for deliveries. Shameful!

Very odd development....convertmy.tv.com is still there, if visiting a page that had previously been bookmarked (http://www.convertmy.tv/productInformation.html). They appear to still be selling the Sansonic converter on that page, and the mysterious MaxMedia converter is still showing backordered with June delivery.

However, when trying to go to their home page a few moments ago, instead of seeing the "Coming Soon" announcement that has displayed for several weeks, the following was displayed with both the IE 7 and Opera browsers:

"503 Service Unavailable
The address you requested is currently unavailable due to billing issues. Please try again later.

For support, please contact Customer Service."

Hmmm...just to see what would happen, I tried clicking on the "Great, I want it now" link that's on their product information page. That link worked earlier today, but no longer. The following was displayed instead:

The homepage is a bit different this morning. Last night, a message about not being available due to billing issues was displayed. This morning, it's a standard "address you requested is currently unavailable" message.

Beginning of the end, perhaps? Or was there ever truly a beginning?

Remember to do a refresh to see if a page is current. You could still have an old view in cache that your browser may bring up, depending on browser and settings the old view could persist on your machine for a long time. Just about everyone gets tripped up by that at some time.

Well maybe some will. Not me I am happy with the new RCA800b1 with Smart antenna and passthru. I do not need S-video
Coming in June 15th

Now If one of my boxes break then I might be interested in a new box. Of course not for $60 or $50 but for $40 with no coupon.

I am afraid that the manufacture you found was part of the problem as to why MM has no box. A small part I bet, but I do not trust the box coming out of this factory.

Of course Taiwan is more stable then China. quality for my product is much better in China. Not sure of converter boxes.

Word of advice. I would not pay in advance to a factory I never seen. They on the other hand won't trust you with credit. So do a letter of Credit. This will ensure delivery time and safe guard you. More then Prepay.

I do wish you luck and you can PM me importing questions anytime.

With the convertmy.tv web page going 503 I sent customer service an email this morning. I asked several questions about the status of the MMDTVB02 and their standing with the NTIA coupon program.

Basically I said if they could not provide acceptable answers I expected a credit to the card I used to order the MMDTVB03 for $59.99. I received a prompt reply without any specific answers to my questions but the following:

"Your credit card charge has been cancelled at your request. Your coupon credit is still on file and valid at CMTV. We are waiting to hear back from the NTIA on how to handle coupon reimbursements and will advise when directed. Additionally, we will update all our customers when the MMDTVB02 is available to ship. You can re-order at that time.

Thank you for your understanding.
CMTV"

Hopefully they can eventually provide what they jumped the gun on selling or get an answer from the NTIA on coupon reimbuesement or replacement. The risk of cancelling the order as they did to me is the possibility of a higher price when the MM box becomes available.

In any event, it appears that they have not closed shop and left town (yet).

It seems there are many issues with the box. I was told the NTIA can't refund the coupon money once the coupon is used. What is the answer to resolve the credit of the coupon. I used the website convert my tv.com to order to boxes and the delivery date has been changed to june 7. Subject: Your order with ConvertMy.TV

Date: June 2, 2008

To our customers who ordered a MaxMedia Converter Box:

ConvertMy.TV was notified by MaxMedia that a chipset quality issue was detected impacting channel reception of the MMDTVB03 Converter Box you ordered. Due to these problems, MaxMedia indicated their plans to redesign the Converter Box using a different, higher quality chipset from another source. We were told that this new box would be available for shipment in mid-June. MaxMedia is currently informing us that the new box will not be available until a future undetermined date. We at ConvertMy.TV can no longer represent MaxMedia product given these circumstances and repeated delays. The impact of these repeated MaxMedia supply delays on ConvertMy.TV has been devastating. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Department of Commerce has decertified ConvertMy.TV for redeeming coupons for MaxMedia orders that remain unfulfilled and for which ConvertMy.TV cannot provide a timely ship date. We at ConvertMy.TV have been working diligently with the NTIA to treat our customers correctly and resolve these unexpected issues. We have cancelled your unfulfilled order with ConvertMy.TV and returned the value of your coupons to the NTIA for deposit in the U.S. Treasury as is required by Coupon Program regulations. NTIA will be contacting you soon regarding the coupons you have already redeemed.

Once again, we are very disappointed and want to sincerely apologize to you about this situation … it caught us, like you, by surprise. My partners had big plans for ConvertMy.TV, including an agreement to source converter boxes and share revenues with one of the largest Christian churches in the United States. Without the ability to process coupons, we may be forced to close our doors and dreams.

We want to personally thank you very much for your business and patience. We have spoken to many of you over the phone and you all have been very kind and supportive and wanted to let you know that we appreciate your understanding.

I think MaxMedia is dreaming if they think they are NTIA approved and also a manufacturer.

Looks like they are trying to cut any ties and confuse people by saying that MaxMedia and ConvertMy.TV are not related.

MaxMedia is probably hoping that they will again be approved by the NTIA and be allowed to continue operations.

ConvertMy.TV is probably hoping that they will also be approved by the NITA and continue selling Sansonic converter boxes to raise capital.

Fast forward to June, 2009 - long after the $40 coupon program has ended - I expect the MaxMedia MMDTVB02 converter boxes will be readily available at low-end discount stores for about $30. It may even have "the bugs worked out" and be a fine choice for DTV.

The impact of these repeated MaxMedia supply delays on ConvertMy.TV has been

Expand "Using a coupon"

Look at #17

WebPage Quote:

"If a coupon expires before it is used, can a consumer re-apply?"

"If a consumer requests only one coupon and it expires before it is used, then they can apply for a second coupon. Once two coupons have been issued to that household, the consumer will no longer be eligible to request any more coupons. Coupons expire 90 days after they are mailed."

So I must now ask TalkingRat if he noticed if the person said they only applied for one coupon or two?

If one, nothings changed...if two, they have changed something.

TalkingRat

I just think the FAQs will lag the update as to what the program does, as it did with FAQs accepting coupons when nothing is in stock. But no, the person didn't say they only applied for one. I do believe (s)he used the term reapply, and said there was an auto link from the status that said they expired. Will look tomorrow, have event to go to right now.

Edit: no such luck, correct above post 127, just the one coupon thing as WethePeople suspected.

Has any of you seen the refund in your credit cards yet?
Please come back here to post if you are able to get the coupons also

Are you sure they charged your credit card? I just went through my transactions and nothing from them nor for that amount showed up.

You know, in an odd way, this might be a blessing in disguise. If our card is reissued, we may have another month or two to look for more boxes that still won't be available! :D

Seriously, my card expired 5/29. So I'm hoping for a good long extension.

(BTW, I was order 158)

something solid is hardware
something fictional is vaporware (Exists only in the minds of people)

Wiki even has the term vaporware. I remember it from product demos at early computer trade shows -- they either demo'd the product under very controlled circumstances or had a recorded simulation of what it would do, once they got the bugs out. It looked like it worked, but the software was created from thin air, vaporware.

Still can't find that reference to the expired coupon(s) -- I'll keep looking tomorrow as I read new posts.

ConvertMy.TV clients should contact their Members of Congress about this legislative problem. They should also contact their local TV news media about running this story as a caution to the public. If you are really motivated, perhaps also contact the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, etc. The public deserves to know that if a merchant violates the NTIA coupon redemption rules and is unable to provide the product, the law punishes the customer as well as the offending merchant. The law apparently has zero provisions to restore the $40 coupon value to the customer.

I sent a complaint to NTIA and received this generic reply......... NTIA by itself isn't able to change Acts of Congress. However, if a few U.S. Senators and Representatives are contacted about the problem of premature coupon redemption by ConvertMy.tv, they might be able to write to NTIA on behalf of you and the others affected. U.S. Representatives and Senators have the "inside the Beltway" dealmaking clout that might allow NTIA to establish an "emergency rule" providing reimbursement of the $40 coupon value to clients who were deprived of their coupon's value due to vendor misconduct by an NTIA-licensed vendor.

In short: don't waste your typing keystrokes complaining to the very weak NTIA. Write to your U.S. Senators and your U.S. Representative.

I sent an appeal to asking for reapplication of the coupon, with full explanation of what happened at convertmy.tv. The following is the reply. Bottom line, it will probably take awhile for the NTIA to change the rules. And in the meantime, they will deny the reapplication if you said you were scammed by a vendor. Until then, you should find a friend in another address with no need for a box, and you apply the coupon to their address on their behalf.

*******************************

June 11, 2008

Dear Consumer:

This email is in response to your appeal of the denial of your coupon application. We have reviewed the information you provided in your appeal and all applications submitted for your household. Your duplicate application is still denied, because your household has already been approved for two coupons.

Another resident in your household or a relative may have already applied for coupons for your household. Or, you may have experienced a technical difficulty with our system and were unsure if your original application was successfully submitted. You may also have already been approved, but have not yet received your coupons, and were concerned about when they would be delivered.

Program rules prevent us from mailing coupons for multiple households to a single address. While we understand that many conditions may require that you apply at your address for someone else’s household, we can only mail two coupons to the address you have provided. Even if you have more than two TVs, we cannot approve more than two coupons for your address.

The household address provided on your application will be receiving two coupons.

We began mailing Coupons in late February. Coupons are being sent based on the date of application, in the order in which the application was received. They are being mailed on a staggered basis, not all at once. Additional information regarding the mailing of coupons can be found on our website at https://www.dtv2009.gov/CheckStatus.aspx.

Program information is available on the website at www.DTV2009.gov.

Fresh from NTIA:

Dear Convert My TV customer:

You recently used a coupon from NTIA's TV Converter Box Coupon Program to order a MaxMedia MMDTVB03 converter from convertmytv.com. When the manufacturer decided not to manufacture this product, the retailer offered to substitute a Sansonic converter. The records we received from the retailer indicate that you did not accept the substitute and that your order has now been canceled. If this is incorrect, please let us know.

The retailer has been decertified from the Coupon Program. NTIA has determined that in these special circumstances, the Program will replace your coupon (or coupons is you ordered two Max Media 03 converters) so that you may use them towards the purchase of a converter at a retailer of your choice that is participating in the Program. The Program is working on the logistics to be able to replace your coupons.

I hope this will be a satisfactory result for you.

John,

Working with our attorneys, we are only able to replace coupons in these very special circumstances, outside of the coupon processing center. The people working at the coupon center still not able to issue more than 2 per household. These are being handled as replacements of the two that you had that were, through no fault of yours, cancelled by a retailer against program rules.

I guess that the agency lawyer advised Ms. Wallgren that the law does not provide for her to send coupons to citizens who already received coupons. Lawyers do risk management and they see an Indian behind every rock.

Government managers rise by following orders and not by showing initiative. However, the better managers learn when to use common sense and how to side step the law. I think Ms. Wallgren would have no problem defending a decision to send new coupons to memsen customers. However, we will have to wait to see if the decision finally resides with someone with common sense.

You would think it could be automated as it was not isolated and never happened again.

Think how long it will take those who lost coupons with the DTVPal (Provantage customers) and Apex (Global) to get there coupons.
Will they will also need a manual system for these two.

These are just two retailers that I know about but there are probably others.

The Provantage would be scary to implement manually as there were a lot of coupons wasted on either the TR-40 or DTVPal orders.

I also wonder if the NTIA is also still working on a manual system to amend the MicroProse MPI-500PT* to the list.
(It has already been over a month and is very similar to the Zenith DTT901* so it should not be that difficult)

I few times before this the default home page was removed with the rest of the site intact. You may remember me posting a snotful of links that were still active back when we had hope

Just use Google with the "Site:" option to see all pages on a site.

Enter this:

Site:MaxMedia.com

Here's a link with "English", "Adult" content enabled, and 100 hits per page as example.

I would not rule out the LUTRO should:
- it actually exist
- it have all of the features I'm looking for
- others try it first and report excellent performance
- I get the coupon burned by the convertmy.tv fiasco replaced by the NTIA

So, odds at say - 1,000,000 : 1 :D

It's that unknown online web site that would make me nervous. It's not the $40 coupon, it's the credit card information that would give me pause. If I really couldn't help myself, the product was that good, I'd ask my friends how they get those one time credit card numbers from their bank.

The goverment is full of cow pies, if they really were going to give you the coupon back all they have to do is sent out others or reactivae the oringal coupon. no big lawyer crap needed which is going to eat all the coupon money up anyway.

That's one blurry ad. And either it's "here" or it isn't. Silicon tuner might be better, if I had adjacent channel conflict, which I don't. Now, it might draw interest if by "better picture" they meant S-Vid. Curious who the retailer is, can't imagine who would sign up for this.

Hey Memsen LUTRO this &#%@%. No one will touch you now. Not one person got their coupons replaced and even if I did. I would not touch you or maxmedia. I'd buy one, but only if I was allowed to use my credit card as protection. No coupons. That way if they failed to deliver, I could just reverse the charge.

I'm glad this thread was here.

It warned me not to spend my coupon on convertmytv.toascam, and instead I used the coupons at Circuit City.

Sincerely,
RENEE SCHMUTZER - Consumer Support - TV Converter Box Coupon Program I'd forward a copy of this to ALL the Congresscritters in my state, plus the two senators, and with an explanation of how a certain company had DEFRAUDED the U.S. government by cashing the coupons, but never delivering the goods.

And that I should receive a replacement coupon, because this was not my fault.

Furthermore I would remind these people that they either help me, or they won't get my vote next fall, and that the story of how they REFUSED to help would be published in every newspaper's editorial page within the state, just prior to the election, when the negative feedback will have maximum consequences.

Some of these boxes never got past the approval stage or were replaced with another box.
For example: I don't think the MicroProse MPI-500 will ever be sold as it was replaced with the MPI-500PT*
I wish the NTIA would prune that list of the dead boxes as it's very deceiving.

I got this message on 6/16 and responded that I would like a replacement coupon. I suggest you email Anita Wallgren and ask for a replacement coupon:

Thank you for your interest in the program.
