I really enjoyed this DVD, it brought back a lot of fond memories. To me well worth the investment. If you lived through that era I think you will enjoy this one.

I just googled, aparently they are making somewhat of a comeback. :D

And there is one not to far away in Beaufort SC. Might have to make a special trip. Need to borrow a Ford Expedition though. ;)

They are. There are some mobile ones too that travel around and set up in fields and other suitable places.

THe last traditional one here in Vancouver got bulldozed a couple of years ago to make way for condos. The owners applied to the city for a license to build another one close by shortly thereafter, but got turned down. People went on a rampage, and the politicians did an about-face, claiming 'we didn't know there was such a demend for a drive in' (ratbastages!), and so one opened late last year, as they had all sorts of issues with the screen for whatever reason. That blew last summer's revenues, but as I recall, they stayed open until the beginning of Nov or something.

I haven't been, I know that the screen looks smaller than the original, but I plan on going this year. They just opened a couple of weekends ago for the season.

Actually, el Becky's in my 20's used to show XXX flicks. :eek: They have toned down their movies to the normal every day showings and have become very family oriented.

As a child we went to one all the time about 30 minutes away. I had fantastic parents. Always a double feature but I never got past the first few minutes of the second movie.

There is one still in Plymouth, Indiana about 25 miles from me. When I was in my late teens I would go about every Friday (opening night) during the summer to one that was about 1-1/2 miles from my childhood home and a mile from where I live now, it was torn down about 15 years ago and a Walmart is in its place. I buy most of my Blu-ray's there for old time sake.

The picture was decent on dark night, sound total crap. I live on the western edge of the eastern time zone, so it's not dark until 10:00 PM during the summer, making it really late after a double feature.

In regards to sound: I am sure many of us old guys remember at the drive in those heavy metal speaker boxes, a volume control, (many times scratchy sound when adjusting the volume) attached by the infamous cord, hanging on the inside of the window. You always had to make sure you rolled that window up so you had a good secure fit. Pure mono bliss. :)

I still recall one experience I had where someone just drove off without removing that speaker from their window and the cord ripped away from the post. OH my... Seems like another lifetime to me, but it was a super duper time to experience life.

Wow I have not thought about this in years. Last movie I watch at the drive in Clash of the Titans. Unfortunatley the film burned about 2/3rds into the movie. I still remember the look on my fathers face, he had taken the night off so we could go. It was still a good time we stopped at the A&W stand on the way home. Man I miss my dad...

I had almost forgotten about the one in Cold Water, MI. Maybe I can talk to wife into going, boy sure reminds me of simpler times.

Unfortunately the last drive-in in San Diego closed down a few years ago.

One of my earliest childhood memories was watching, "To Kill a Mockingbird" in a drive-in. I don't think I lasted more than about 30 minutes before falling asleep :)

I dunno, have a lot of fond memories of being taken by the 'rents and seeing such gems as Dirty Harry, untold biker gang movies, and of course taking my first "real" girlfriend to the drive in in the tres cool '74 dodge dart, with a six :cool: But perhaps memory is better than reality, though as I think we're spoiled videophiles. Just attended the Wellfleet, MA drive in while on vacation last week and was unimpressed with the audio even though they broadcast on FM, screen size (100x44ft and was parked up front) as well as horrendous contrast due to ambient lighting, star and moonlight. I fell asleep 1/2 hour into the first movie as a result (Mummy3) and we subsequently passed on the second feature (Hulk) even though I did want to see it . Guess it'll wait until BD.

Fun to remember. Showing my age but I beleive I saw every Clint Eastwood western (1st run) from the top of a Ford Falcon station wagon with a special matress my father came up with. In hindsight I realized his goal to get the kids out of the car :). Sister was always asleep before the second movie got started. Seems like they always played 3 films though. Sometimes we stayed into the wee hours... good times.

We have a drive in down the street that I have been going to for 35 years (since I was 5). Watched many classics there (Exorcist, Jaws, Blazing Saddles)
