I built a 5.0 system last year when I lived in a condo, and now that I have a house (and the ability to be loud) I want to add some more bass to it.

My receiver is Pioneer VSX-816 (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/AV-Receivers/PioneerReceivers/VSX-816-K%7CS) (110W x7).

My speakers are the Athena Audition series (http://www.athenaspeakers.com/audition-Series-2.htm), and I have the F2.2's (http://www.athenaspeakers.com/model-AS-F2-2.htm) for primary front towers, so they already have pretty good bass response (dual 8" woofers on each tower, 250W per channel).

I am trying to decide between a Dayton 8" and Dayton 10" for my sub. Are those good choices? I've heard decent things about them, and the price is sure nice.

My room is 12' wide by 18' deep. My primary reason for getting the sub is for movies.

Thanks!

That size room will require more sub what is your budget.

Well honestly I can spend whatever I need to but I like to keep it cheap. That's why the Daytons sounded nice (below $200). I'm looking at the 12" now too.

What do you think I need? Obviously my HT setup does not take up that whole room... that's just where the walls lie (and on two sides there isn't much of a wall, but a transition into other rooms).

You really will get a lot of bang for your buck from HSU or SVS and chances
are if you call either they will give you the correct sub for your application
negating the need to upgrade anytime soon. It will cost more than 200.00
but i have yet to meet anyone that has been unhappy with their suggestion
performance wise. You will get a lot more help in the sub forum.

Have you heard "any" of the Dayton subs your thinking about?

The SVS PB-10 periodically appears on the used market for around $280 - 300, plus shipping. Given your desire to have better performance without breaking the bank, this sub offers a lot of performance for its price point.

There's also the eD subs that are discussed in the subwoofer forum here. However, there is a bit of a backlog on their products due to a fair amount of demand.

Sounds like the decision was made on price to me. I'd listen to these guys. You don't want to skimp on a sub if you don't have to.

Sorry, didn't realize there was a sub forum. I'll take it over there. Thanks for all the good info here.
