Okay so I have had this now for about 4 months total. I was wondering because on fiew channels the PQ seems grainy and very sub-par. Then you have other channels that look amazing. My question is they hooked the dish up with RG6 cable, do I need anything better then that?
I have my reciever hooked up with HDMI 1.3 to my Samsung A550P.

Keep in mind that some directors consider graininess a positive attribute. I remember reading recently that one refused to shoot in HD until he was assured that the show could retain that grainy affect. So it may not be the channel that is grainy but rather just some or many of the shows on it. I have noticed that Sci Fi HD has a lot of grainy shows.

Espn looks sub-par! I was just wondering if RG6 was good enough cable coming from the dish to not lose quality.

If your quality is acceptable on some channels or even shows and not others then it most likely is not your equipment. I also think that some of the shows were not shot in HD but were upconverted. Live ball games look great, then I put on HBO and watch an older movie and it looks sub par like you said. Also like Bicher said, some is by choice grainey

Can't get any better than that. Coaxial cable cannot cause graininess in digital transmissions.

I would have Directv replace the HR21. A friend had the same problem and when they finally replaced the box the problem went away.
