rboster 04-27-08, 11:00 AM You are better served by breaking down the equipment into each appropriate forum for advice....
That's not to say that members that "hang out" here won't have educated opionions....just that those members that do the comparison tests of new and established products tend to hang where their interest and expertise ....ie: Projector Forum etc. I would run a search first for each product before starting a new thread....since 99% of what you are asking about have a history of terrific existing threads discussing the pros and cons of each product.
Since 17K is no small investment...take your time and make sure you are getting the best value for you.
Marc Ye 04-27-08, 11:06 AM I like the Triads! :)

i have picked most of these products based on those posts/discussion. just looking for a all around opinion. i have been doing some pretty heavy research. and this was the last post regarding the equipment. i figured this was the best forum to get an all around opinion from.
very knowledgeable people on this thread.
thanks.
rahimlee54 04-27-08, 11:49 AM I woudlnt think you would need the oppo since the PS3 upconverts very well, based on forums on this board, so I think you could save that cash unless you know without a doubt you must have it.

You should base your choices on stuff you've actually seen and heard. Trusting other people is a recipe for disaster, unless you are not picky in the slightest. How does that 17k break down? Sounds like a lot for rather "ordinary" equipment though I imagine the projector is most of it.
Overall great choices
The only MUST change, if you care about sound, is to definitely not go with in wall speakers, otherwise you will end up regretting your decision.
The other suggestion i would make is for you to look at other subs. You can do much better then Velodyne for your money. Consider Epik and eDesign subs.
bmwracer3 04-27-08, 06:19 PM I disagree with Dionyz, as in-walls can still be terrific. If you do have the room for proper placement of free-standing speakers, then you can get a lot more sound for the $. Also, I wouldn't necessarily do Triad silvers. They are in a bit of a dead spot in the Triad line, ergo you don't get much more for the premium over the Bronze series. Gold, on the other hand, is pretty dog-gone nice. I like RBH myself, and have SI-760's in my theater.
I do agree with Dionyz though, on the sub selection. I'd get 2 MFW15's from AV123 and use the $1000 you saved to have the room design done by Brian Pape or some other audio guy of your choice. That'd be worth a lot more than have another $1k in arbitrarily placed speakers.

The triads are top of the line speakers, they can compete with any bookshelf or floorstand setup if a Sub is involved and the system is properly configured!!
To the OP, triads are a good choice. I know you made this decision based on your speaker thread and I think you are going to be very, very happy.
VA HDman 05-03-08, 01:17 AM Both Triads and RBH are very good speakers. You probably will not be disappointed with either -- especially since there will not be any sort of side-by-side comparision once you make your choice and have your setup installed. I happen to be an RBH dealer in DC. I typically tell my customers that a comparision between two good quality speakers (like RBH and Triad) is like comparing two good wines. It really boils down to personal preference. The best thing to do is to demo both sets of speakers using the same listening material (preferebly something that you know and love, which has a wide dynamic range). Than make your choice. Recommendtions are nice, but in the end, you are the one who is going to be listening to your speakers.
Good Luck
VA HDman 05-03-08, 01:27 AM PS. I completely disagree withthe proir poster that in-walls are inferior to floor standing speakers. RBH and Triad speakers will stand up to any floor standing speaker in the same price range. But again, you should make that decision. There are certain trade-offs people sometimes make when choosing one type of speaker over another. For example, to get the best perfromance from you floorstanding speakers the front channels may need to be placed two to three feet out from the front and side walls. Most people find this obtrusive. If you are going to place your floorstanding speakers too close to the wall, why not get a speaker that is designed to work with the wall (i.e., an in-wal speaker). They have a much higher WAF. I personally think you get a bigger WOW effect from your guests, if the stage doesn't look like a rock concert.
ichbinbose 05-03-08, 04:16 PM spkrs are fine. projector is ok, however a better screen can help the picture pop.
Oppo DVD is a complete waste here, since you have the PS3
Harmony controller - well lets just say I'm no fan of any harmony product and that a controller should be designed by a company that specializes in that field just like the triads are built by a spkr company. Would you want spkrs built by a computer company?
2 subs are always better than 1, & 4 subs is always the best.
design & calibration can make or break a home theater.
but in the end for 17K I personnaly think that you can get better gear, and better results.
Ethan Winer 05-04-08, 01:19 PM going to order my equipment. but looking for some input.
I have no opinion on your proposed gear, but if you plan to spend $17k and not budget any of that for room acoustics you're making a big mistake.
