We just moved into a new condo and I have very 5.1 surround sound system from Nuance bought in 2000. Now these speakers are HUGE and it's old and it just doesn't go in our condo. Our condo is a very open concept however the area where the t.v. would be is around 10'x14' est. We have hardwood throughout the condo and there are a lot of windows in the living area.

Now that you have a basic idea of the area, what my question is, is what kind of system do I buy? I'm going to have a hard time doing wires because there is no carpet and pulling the baseboards off and putting it under them might not work because the cables would be to large for the rear speakers. Do I go wireless? If so what would be a decent system without breaking the bank? Do I go with a virtual surround system? (I think that is single unit with 20-30 or so small speakers in it).

Any ideas would be helpful. I have a connection at Best Buy where I can get stuff for cost so that would be preferable but I know their selection is limited.

Anyway I'm looking for ideas of what I can do with the space I have, I ultimately do not want wires all over the place.

Wireless speakers have not been too successful. You could do 3.1 across the front, which should keep the wires to a minimum. Or go with one of those multi-driver bar things. If it's just for video, I'd opt for the latter. If you also want a serious music system, consider separate speakers, even if you have to leave off the rears.

What would you recommend for a 3.1 setup then? I have an older receiver (Technics SA-DX940). I'd like to find a good balance between a movie setup and stereo setup so I can listen to music during parties. I'm open to a receiver suggestion if needed, also open to speaker suggestions. The Multi-Driver thing, any ideas on what?

Total budget for the system would be 2000 +/- 500 bucks.
