I installed mythbuntu 8.04 today, and I have to say it was the easiest install ever, but I'm still having problems with the program guide taking an exceedingly long time to respond (I was using 8.04 beta before).

Changing the fill method does nothing. This is a dual-core opty 2.4 with 2gb ram, 250gb sata and 8500gt, btw.

I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this or has heard anything about it.

EDIT: However, the delay introduced by -v all causes playback stutters, so I'll just live w/o epg for now. :(

Also, it could be a realtime priority issue as mentioned here (http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/3986), so I'll have a look at that tomorrow.

Isn't the -v option just to produce the verbose output in the terminal? I don't see how that could solve any problem, it is usually used to diagnose a problem.

Yes, but the overhead causes a delay which eases the race condition in the epg between displaying video and monitoring key presses.

After re-reading through the bug-tracker while sober (lulz!) and checking the kernel version, it seems the PAM thing doesn't affect me and changing the scan to progressive before invoking epg solves the problem for me which is a doable enough work-around.

I'm not going back to .20 because .21 has spoiled me with its far-more-stable firewire support.

Anyway, hope this helps should this happen to anyone else.

Sadly, I didn't. It stopped after a driver update and/or compiling from svn and/or system update. I did all three pretty much at the same time, so I was never able to pinpoint the culprit.

well, I have all the latest from Mythbuntu 9.04 (did update and upgrade from 9.04 RC), so whatever is out there along with 180.44 NVIDIA, the issue still exists.

What distribution are you using?

This, I believe is my only hurdle left. I got lirc and HDMI audio working which were the two other things that didn't work off the bat with 9.04. Hoping to find a solution to this one soon.

I'm still in 8.10, but I haven't been using myth since I moved a couple of months ago, so I don't know if said problem came back or not. It's a real PITA, that's for sure. I'd try the nvidia beta driver first then, if no change, compile myth from svn. You can easily revert from either/both of these if it's still hosed.

ppl are going to find that using any nVidia driver 185 and up PLUS Firefox/Iceweasel or Thunderbird/Icedove, will see their CPU gradually build to 100% on one core (Xorg), and everything will slow to a crawl. Of course I've b1tched about this, but to no avail so far.

well, I think it may have been the icons. I tried some posted suggestions of pausing livetv first, then go into EPG and that worked. But now that I have disabled icons, it seems to also work. I guess I'll try the icons again and see if it is dead slow. It states to read section 9.5 of the installation guide to setup the icons. I guess I'll try that too. I suspect it was not finding them and therefore was waiting(?). Not sure.

That's never happened to me...uptime 20 days, firefox always running. The only time I see cpu increase is while playing flash, and it gets spread out nicely across the cores and stays pretty even.
