I am trying to sell this lens and can't find good information on the value of the lens today. Or what applications it can be used for now such as what projectors it's compatible with.

The lens is from Iscooptic. The projector was a Rucno VX-5c. The Box says Anamorphic Attachment 1,42x Stock.Nr. 301.01

On the lense it says Runco Widevision Animorphic Lens - 3 and 5:4 to 16:9

The lens was orginally like $30,000. What is a comparable lens with the same uses. What would be a fair value for this lens now?

Here's some pictures to help.

By the way, the lens came from this projector here.

ebay item #130217605168

If that helps more, so than previously giving just the name of the unit.

Not even close to 30k. This lens sold through Runco would have been marked up do to the OEM process but still not even at 15k unless combined with a motorized sled then 15k would have been full retail but you can buy these new direct from Isco.

This will take a 4x3 machine out to 16x9 or take the d cinema 2k chip to scope.
Not for use with 16x9 projectors.
New they are not cheap. As with the Isco 3 they are 6k or higher retail cheaper actual street price. Its rare you see these on the market as most people spending that kind of coin on a lens usually keep them verses taking any financial loss selling them. I have seen used Isco 3s as low as mid 3 to mid 4s.
What is it worth ? what someone is willing to pay:) Very good lens.

I understand it's going to take a 4:3 to 16:9. That's what it was doing before a new chrities 5k was installed, since the new model is native 16:9 it doesn't require the lens.

Would this lens be compatible with all projectors that are 4:3 with the appropriate attachements?

I'm not familiar with selling a lens like this and didn't see anything comparable on ebay and wanted to sell it at the right spot and get back something fair for it. The more information I have on the lens is the best solution to aid in that effort.

Thanks for any tips.

Yes it would and it would also take any d cinema projector using the 2048x1080
chip to 235:1.
Im guessing anyone still using a 4x3 projector by todays standards knowing 4x3
native ratio has been replaced many years ago will probably not spend the money on such a lens. Your target or any interest will most likely come from someone owning a 2048x1080 native panel projector. That share of owners on this forum or most are very few. You may want to place an add on a bulletin board targeting commercial Theaters. Most theaters are offered long term payment plans when purchasing their equipment. On the commercial side you may want to consider offering an aggressive deal to get someone to jump fence.

I like this one, knowing what these weigh the dumbells are superfluous. Reminds me of a comment made by Auric Goldfinger "it's devine heavyness":D

I forgot to mention Vern Diaz on this board pick one of these up on ebay for a great price. I remember him posting he did not need the extra stretch but he did not want to pass on the price. I do not remember what he paid but I am sure it was no more then 3 or 4k.
By the way this lens would work with a 16x9 projector if someone wanted to run a wider scope screen constant height then 2:35.1 but they would need to combine the proses with a videio processor that allowed programming of custom ratios.

Art..yea I think the lens weigh more then the dumbells.

Well, at the risk of making some people here physically ill or at least a little green, here is the story.

First of all, mine is a 1.5x lens rather than the 1.42x lens pictured here. Other than that it looks to be a similar size and weight.

Now comes the part of the story that may make some ill, (or at least a little green :) ).

I picked my lens up from a local surplus place in Dallas that apparently bought a load of stuff surplused by TI a while back. Total cost: $275.00. The tag on the case says: TI Lot 18, Unknown Manufacturer, 1.5X Anamorphic Lens. I believe this was a prototype, because it doesn't have any manufacturers name or any real identification markings on it. Before anyone asks, they only had the one.

Now, if someone wanted to use this 2.42x lens along with a scaler or an HTPC, it would make for a real nice final AR of about 2.52:1 or so and would enable constant height almost all the way out to a 2.55:1 screen AR (or more by cropping a few pixels from the top and or bottom of the image.

I didn't pay for the lens originally, so I was just quoting what I was told about the cost. But I couldn't find any concrete pricing on the lens so that's what I was going with.

The projector was something like 60k new in 2002, now I'll be lucky to get 10k fo the Runco VX-5c.

But new for around 10 - 15k seems reasonable (I got the attachement as well) for the original price.
