Some of you might know that last week, finally, the Doors Vinyl Boxed set was released. Every Doors album with all original cover art, inserts, exactly as they were originally released except that they are on much thicker vinyl and were remastered by the legendary engineer that orginally mastered them in the first place, Bruce Botnick. The first Doors release is presented in both stereo as well as a mono copy. They sound wonderful but were held to 12,500 copies, worldwide. (I have copy 1,559). Here is a link to an interview with Bruce where he talks about working with other legendary engineers, like Van Dyke, and Lenny Waronker at Elektra records. He discusses the signature "sound" that each record company had at the time, the various techniques that were used, and is really a great read for those of us who are interested in the history and evolution of producing music.
