View Full Version : Shall we dance - Reviews and Reactions Thread
lgans316 04-28-08, 10:02 AM Video:
In 1080p (AVC/MPEG-4), "Shall We Dance?" has a nice glossy look, though it's not as three-dimensional as some of the better Blu-rays. The detail level is there, with sharp edges and a clarity that comes across in shadow as well as light. This one is "enhanced," meaning the 1.85:1 picture stretches across the whole 16x9 monitor.
Audio:
It's been awhile since I've reviewed a PCM soundtrack on a Blu-ray release, and I have to say that I still think it's one of the strongest. There's just a gum-popping clarity to it, and PCM does a better job of spreading the sound across the room, driving it beyond the sound source. This uncompressed soundtrack (48kHz/24-bit) does as well with faint sounds as with the robust music. Additional options are English, French, and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, with subtitles in English SDH, French, and Spanish.

I received my copy in the mail today. I can only view the previews of coming attractions. I cannot access the main menu through my remote control.
Does anyone else have this problem? I have not had this problem with other Blu Rays.
If it matters, I have a first generation Sony player

I have both and prefer the JLo/Richard Greer version, if only because of the music, specifically "Sway" by the Pussycat Dolls and "Santa Maria" by Go Tan Project. As an ex-Ballroom dancer I, of course, found technical mistakes with Greer's dancing, but overall see it as superior to the Japanese actor's dancing.
On the Japanese version watch the extras, you'll see the "Sway" Video.
Yes, I'll be picking up the BD version.
Igans,

Which version did you see first?
Also to me the story has an entirely different meaning taking place in a society such as Japans.

That is a very astute question; the Americanised version.

True enough, but there are incongruities still, like when the daughter demands that he dance with her mother.
