I'm in the planning stages of my home theater and the pictures on here of star ceilings are really impressive. The only down side is that I'm afraid that the seams between multiple panels will show up when the lights are on. Can you guys with star ceilings please post some pictures of your star fields with the lights on? If you could include any information about what material you used to cover your panels, that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks.

I'd like to see this as well.... Every star cieling I have seen in person so far looked not so great to me with the lights on.

I've heard and just seen pictures that seams when looking at black GOM or Dazian fabric are hard to make out under normal (lights on) lighting conditions. I'm in the planning stages with my star ceiling and I'm planning on 6 panels - probably made out of closed cell foam insulation and wrapped in Dazian Black Celtic Cloth. I'll take pictures as I go, but this is probably a month away. That depends on how quickly I will order (this week) and receive my parts.

Ryan,
My panels are wrapped in Dazian black celtic cloth. A couple of problems; first the CC has a slight sheen to it when light hits it directly. Secondly, the fabric is directional believe it or not! Take a look at my bar build link and look at the last couple of pages. You can see the center panel has a different look. When I move to the other side the Center panel turns darker and the two end panels lighten up.
As Ruben (SandmanX) recommends, look into wrapping the panels in velvet.
On topic, you can see the seams under general light conditions. I am considering how to trim my panels out and thought about maybe a window pane look over the seams...Jury is still out.
When the lights are out, it looks great. When a movie is playing you will get the reflected light from the screen reflecting off the panels....
I plan on pulling the center panel and turning it around to match the other panels.
Hope this helps!

Looks cool... The star cieling is actually the image before the link you posted though.

Got a close up or at least a closer up with flash and/or the lights up to full lighting?

I fixed the link thanks.
I don't have any current pictures, right now the overhead lights are the only one functional, and they are all the way up in that photo.
It's just drywall, so it looks like any other wall/ceiling. I left the fibers protruding about a 1/4" and you can see them where the comet is located due to the high concentration.
Here (http://www.personal.psu.edu/bsr1/AldoHouse/slides/IMG_3437.html)is a shot before the front windows were covered, you can really see the crappy job the painter did....
Further back on my house build (http://www.personal.psu.edu/bsr1/AldoHouse/slides/IMG_3008.html), I have some pages documenting the install.

i am planning a starfield and i really want to use velvet because i know how much darker it is. i am really torn because i have never found fire rated velvet. on the one hand i figure my house is built of flammable substances so i am not sure what another 300 sq ft of velvet will do. there are no lights or heat sources near the velvet so if it caught fire that would mean that the rest of the room was already burning. on the other hand i know you are not supposed to use non-fire rated materials.
i even took a piece of fidelio and a piece of gom and lit them to see what happens. the fidelio burned much easier but it did not go up like the hindenburg or anything.

Thanks for the pics and info thus far. HeyNow^, your input is especially helpful. I never would have considered the material being directional either. Your ceiling looks great, but I do see the difference that you are talking about.
brotsten, your ceiling is awesome, but I don't think that I can bring myself to tear out my drywall ceiling (or the floor above it) to do mine that way, haha.

Hey Randy, thanks for pointing that out. I saw the pictures on your thread. Hmmm. I have used some of Dazian's Trapeze fabric for my walls now and noticed the direction in the fabric. I already have it in hand, so I'll probably give it a shot and see how that goes. My projector is pretty bright too (Sony Black Pearl), so I'll definitely want to get things aligned nicely.
I looked into velvet, but Bryan (bpape) advised against it - at least in my room, based on high freq. absorption. I'd love to go that route, but it isn't an option for me. I'd love to know how you like things if/when you get that center panel turned.
