Hi All,

I want to put together a sounds system for my backyard. I have a spare AR, and some other surplus components, so I figured I would like to put a rack outside. Does anyone know of a price-effective manufacturer/supplier of weatherproof enclosures? I can get industrial grade stuff, but it is bulky and expensive.

Thanks in Advance!

You need a 19" amp rack or a weatherproof enclosure to hold various electronics that don't bolt into a 19" rack?

This was the first thing that came to mind. I don't know if they're weatherproof or not, but rubber or foam seals could be glued onto the lids, or even some caulking.

There's got to be other cheaper options though. Creativity will certainly come into play here.

Those are really cool, but they are way overkill with the 3-axis shock absorbsion. I just need a metal or plastic enclosure, that has a door with "seals". I can probably get one made for machinery controls, but they are usually heavy and expensive; as they are made for factory settings, and are beefy enough to withstand being run into with forklifts and stuff. Yes, you are correct, creativity will be key here.:)

Just a thought, but do you think you might be able to find a plastic picnic cooler that could be modified to do the job?

That is actually a GREAT IDEA! If I can get one of those heavy duty coleman fish & game coolers (the ones that have the metal locking mechanism and lid gasket), that might work out well. If they still make them in metal, then I could even paint it for the WAF. Thanks!

If you don't need something that is weatherproof, and the cabinet is going to be mounted on a covered porch, there are a lot of 19" cabinets out there for computer equipment.

One example is http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=834178 and there are literally dozens of others. They are not weatherproof, but if they're mounted on a covered porch underneath the roof they'll be close.

We use Hoffman enclosures here at the water world in Vegas.

I have mine in mohogony cabinets I built last year. Some foam seals and it's dry as a bone. I have my eye on a sammy for the corner cabinet; the receiver is below the counter in the corner.
