Art,
I think thats actually the single chip OPTIX. The HELIOS is the 3 chip M80.

Page 9 of the PDF or 17 of the manual.

http://www.avielo.com/pdf/avielo_familty_EN_web.pdf

You're correct in your observation. Even 50% of spec will slaughter everything.

The problem may be that as they dont call it the M80, they are not bound by those insane numbers. For those unfamiliar, 8000 lumen and 50,000/1 and 6 lens options.

Price point is also new.

The design puts the chips at the top of the unit. That makes color filter swaps far simpler.;)

What specs?

All I see is resolution and max screen size.

The basic M80 spec listed in my post above is very widely known. That bottom piece is the M80. There were/are issues with the M80. A rename lets it be a different PJ and therefore they are not tied to the spec.

The fact that the M80 spec is nowhere to be seen anymore in new releases, not just in the brochure, is revealing.

A number of us waiting for this piece still expect big things.

For me personally, this machine looks like it could hold up progress in my current project if details don't emerge soon.

This thing has been hovering over hi-end installs and replacements for ages and is frequently mentioned in that manner in the hi-end forum.

Other options are on the horizon that threaten eclipse this if PD don't get their act in gear. Im excited at the prospect, but just wish they would hurry up.

Hope this helps.

I'm confused!
So Avelio is the range name for all their domestic machines?
So far those machines are the
PRISMA _________ a new replacement to the M20?
SPECTRA ________ is this the renamed M25?
RADIANCE _______ a brighter M25?
OPTIX __________ is this the renamed cineo30?
HELIOS _________ Is this the renamed M80?

Is that roughly right?

That's a picture of the Optix not Helios. It's one chip DLP.

Yes Alan the Vidikron Helios was a 2 chip design. Didn't last long.

Me thinks Art is getting itchy for a new projector. HT5000 for sale coming I expect.

Its almost time to start organizing the last in Denver Art Sonneborn Cedia Reunion Get Together Dinner after the Cedia Party. And this one we will get Ken W. to attend even if we have to blind fold him. Private joke. Also this one Art will attend. No joke. He had to cancel his trip to Denver at the last minute last year but his faithful Indians marched on with his dinner.

Here is a better picture of the 3-chipper M80 = helios.

http://avforum.no/gallery/files/7/9/8/6/F80.JPG

And the original CE pro article from july last year (http://www.cepro.com/article/projectiondesign_a_new_projector_company_with_a_rich_legacy/)when the formfactor of the 3-chipper was first shown.

Avielo' family by projectiondesign product range from the pdf. (http://www.avielo.com/pdf/avielo_familty_EN_web.pdf)

The M80 was $70k-$80k. The initial info on the Helios is the same price

That would be one spicy meatball of a projector.

Does it require 220V? Sounds like a cool projector!

I have the Avielo Spectra as well, but when I connect it to my computer via HDMI, the max resolution my graphics card allows me to select is 720p. There are no 1080p options

it's windows vista, running an nvidia card with the latest drivers installed.

Generic PNP display is what windows reports.

I can't seem to find any Avielo/Projection Design specific display drivers for this projector
