Too bad none of these Wi-Fi radios are actually portable and let you use batteries. I wonder what their power consumption is like.

It really doesn't look all that portable, but I guess that is a relative term. I'll bet that compared to say analog FM Radio reception the power consumption is higher. I know that there has been some discussion of analog vs. HD radio and the HD radio power consumption is higher than analog tuners.

I've got one of the C Crane CC Wifi radios. When it works it's great, especially with external powered speakers. One UI problem is that the display is always in 2 line mode, dark letters on red lighted background so it's not readable at night and the clock isn't displayed at all when the radio is on. It always is advertising that it's Real enabled.

Unfortunately it also often has a problem with staying connected. It will run for several days, then loose the wifi connection and not be able to reconnect. This is particularly odd because when it can't reconnect it can see the wifi network and shows over 80% reception strength. Power cycling it immediately reconnects every time.

I returned the first one I got and the second has exactly the same issue. My guess is that there's a firmware bug. Unlike some other wifi radios there hasn't been an update.

Bottom line is it's annoying.

I have the same problem although power cycling doesn't always work. Strong signal 80+, too.
