I've had an overscan issue on my Sony 30HS420 for a while, but it has never bothered me until I started playing Grand Theft Auto IV on my Xbox 360 today. The displays are getting severely cut off--to the point that I can hardly read anything on the left and right sides of the screen. It's ruining the game for me.

I know this can be fixed through the service menu, but it's kind of intimidating and I don't want to mess anything up. I've read through the service menu guides on this forum, but I wasn't able to figure out how to solve the problem. Would anyone be able to give me a step-by-step on how to adjust the 1080i overscan? I would greatly appreciate it.

run the game, shut the TV off, press 'display', '5', 'Vol+', 'power', in that order to turn the TV back on. You will see the Service menu. You can't hurt anything until you save your changes.

2 and 5 move you thru the different groups, so press 2 until you see VPOS. Then press 1 and 4 to navigate thru the settings one by one. Pressing 2 again will jump you to the next group which I believe starts with HCENT.

SO, adjust VPOS and VSIZ with the 3 and 6 buttons, then move over to HPOS and HSIZ(don't adjust HCENT) and adjust those with the 3 and 6 buttons.

If you mess up and want to reset the values, press 0. You will see the word "READ" appear. Then press enter to activate the read and you will see the values reset.

Once you're done adjusting, press mute and you will see the word "WRITE". Press enter to activiate WRITE to save your changes. Makes sure you write down the original settings in case you don't like what you did.

Good luck! and make sure to use a test pattern. I suggest the TigerDave overscan pattern via USB drive on your Xbox360. Use the 1280x720 pattern.
