View Full Version : angle subwoofer towards listening position

I've noticed that there is a noticeable increase in sub output if I stand up at my listening position, versus when I sit. My sub sits outside of my mains and along the side wall about 1/3 into the room. It is a SVS PB10-NSD.

I am using AUDYSSEY and have also adjusted the variable phase using the AVIA phase tests.

So I am not sure if it is phase cancellation, or just a null.

Would angling the subs driver towards the listening position possible help, or would it only cause other issues (such as phase problems)?

You can try it. Generally it takes moving it some, not just towing it.

Sounds like your getting a null at the listening position. Any bass traps in the room? Slap off the rear wall often causing this.

Unfortunately no bass traps, but I am looking into that option. I do believe it is a null, not something Audyssey is doing as it seems to be present with it on or off.

Right now the sub is in a corner that is bumped out from the front wall as there is a closet there. I don't have much ability to move it without rewiring....though that is an option.

I guess the main issue is will towing it in towards the listening position cause phase or other issues?

Also, are there any good DIY bass traps....or inexpensive ones? The ones I have looked at are a bit pricey.

Yeah, the “null” a kinder of dip in the frequency response! Try matching sub bass arrays that might cut around the issue, subs belong below and up front beneath the centre channel if at all possible.

Can't do that. So I am going to have to experiment with placement. Angling seems to help a bit, but will it mess anything up to place the sub on an angle towards the listening position?
