My TV has S-Video and composite inputs. Does any CECB have S-Video output, or am I limited to the composite output?

The TV is a 15 yr old Toshiba that has given superb service. I will keep it until it dies, or until I can get a 46" or larger OLED for less than $3000.

The Channel Master CM-7000 has S-Video. MaxMedia keeps promising a converter that has S-Video, but I'd personally go with the Channel Master.

Thank you! On further thought, I have another question -- will S-video actually give a better picture than composite? Or is the output from the box such that composite will do just as well? My TV only has one S-video input, currently taken by the DVD player, so if I want to use S-video from the box, then I will have to begin using my AV pre-pro (Sherwood-Newcastle P-965) as a video switcher, which I have been able to avoid until now.

Keeping your picture info and your color info seperate as long as possible is always best (Luma/Chroma). They get mixed together to feed that RCA jack outputting composite baseband video.

There are those here that have very nice TV's with more than single-line comb filters that say S-Video and Composite look about the same.

But unless you spent $1000+ on your TV, it will be noticable.

So for those of us that are stuck with Wally-World TV's, use S-Video and keep those pinstripe suits and diagonal striped ties from chroma-crawlin' :)

Not me. I'd wait for the Echostar unit, which has a programmable VCR Timer (to automagically switch stations during recording).

Shoot, I had forgotten about the Echostar model. At a forum devoted to DBS broadcasting last week (satelliteguys.us), someone left a post about Echostar sending emails to some folks for very rapid beta testing of the firmware built into the unit. Hopefully it'll reach the market soon.
