I am a little confused if this will work or not. Okay, probably alot confused.
I have an older tv that will need a cecb. I have a older direct tv box (d11-300). Can that be used to get ota digitial signals without a dish satelite? I hooked up the antenna to the over the air input on the back of the box.
When i turn on the unit i get the looking for satelite message. I was thinking that i could receive digitial signals thru this unit?
I am not currently in a position to hook up cable. Times are tough. Is the older unit good for this application?
Any help or suggestions?

If this will not work, can you make a suggestion as to what i might try.
I have an older tv, in the basement with a snowy picture. I would like to be able to receive digitial channels and improve the picture. The tv has a s video input. It has a good picture when watching a video, dvd.
If you need more info, let me know.

You will need a converter box. Please see the sticky (in the section of this forum above all of these individual topics) entitled FAQ: The $40 Coupon Digital TV Converter Boxes (CECBs). It will tell you everything you need to know.

Is an older box d11-300 good for anything? Or is it destined for a land fill?

Please send it to a recycling center rather than the dump :)
