In yet another classic western announcement, Warner today detailed their release plans for the Clint Eastwood film "Pale Rider' on Blu-ray. The film is included in Warner's 85th anniversary Western event that will deliver several classics of the genre to Blu-ray later this year. While exact details of the release haven't yet been announced, expect the standard Warner VC-1 treatment in 1080P. Release is currently scheduled for August 26th.

How is this movie (story/acting wise) compared to other Eastwood westerns?

I'd say the closest to this would be "High Plains Drifter". If you are unfamiliar with that one, try renting it and see if it appeals to you.

Maybe Clint is going to become this year's poster child for Blu-ray? Last year it seemed like it was Johnny Depp.

I would love to see many more of Clint's works on Blu-ray.

Yeah, I thought Mystic River was mentioned as a candidate for release, so I hope that comes out too.

I haven't seen Pale Rider, so I'll have to put that one in the queue.

IMHO 'Pale Rider' pales in comparison to 'Shane', which it seems a rip-off of. I am however looking forward to Eastwood's superior 'The Outlaw Josey Wales'.

Hopefully Warner will lay off the edge enhancement that has creaped it's ugly head on some of their other older releases like The Dirty Dozen, Battle of the Bulge and The Wild Bunch.

I'm really in no hurry but I'm definitely going to rent it first to check the quality before pulling the trigger. I'm a bit afraid of how this one may turn out.

Some trivia in "Pale Rider":
The title is a reference to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as the rider of a pale horse is Death.
Clint is a ghost and the main bad guy is the sheriff from the old tv series "Lawman".

The quality should be nice. I saw it on HDNET, the first time in high-def and if that transfer is being used it will be very nice. Keep in mind that this is not a colorful movie - prominent colors are browns, dark greens and white as well since there are several snow scenes

Anyone know what audio is coming with this BD? Cannot find anything conclusive about that.

I remember when i first saw this it reminded me very much of High Plains Drifter but i thought High Plains Drifter was a superior movie and still do....Still having said that i say bring them all on as i love a good western.

DVDBeaver caps. (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews40/pale_rider_blu-ray.htm) Not the sharpest and most detailed picture out there, but still pretty good and no waxy faces. I'm buying; looking forward to it as I've never seen the film before either. :)

On order and looking forward to it. I'll also report back on my opinion of the quality some time next week after I watch it. I'm sure it will beat the SD DVD but time will tell by how much.
