I'm trying to find a place to purchase the Blu-ray of Avatar from Hong Kong.

What's a good source? Yes-Asia seems like the obvious answer, but is there a reputable, cheaper source?

I've never had any problems with DDDHouse.com, although their shipping can be slower. But they're almost invariably cheaper than YesAsia. The difference on the Avatar gift set is particularly huge ($47 vs. $70).

Thank you for this Thread. I want to share some of the great movies to my parents but like most of you, couldn't really tell which Blu-ray has Chinese sub.

I have some questions on these movies:

Is there a Blu-ray version of Curse of the Golden Flower in Cantonese audio? Or Cantonese audio only in DVD?

The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Blu-ray from amazon has Cantonese audio. Does it really get Cantonese audio?

I'm 99% certain that the American version of Crouching Tiger only has Mandarin and doesn't even have a Cantonese language track. It must be a typo.

Picked up the The Man with No Name Trilogy recently.

A FistFul of Dollars has Cantonese and Mandarin subs although it looks like the Mandarin is the Taiwanese subtitles so therefore both subtitles are in Traditional (non-simplified) characters.

For a Few Dollars More does not have Chinese subtitles.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is the same disc as the standalone version and has Cantonese and Mandarin subtitles as noted in a previous post.

Hi just to help in making sense of things

Most Cantonese dialogue film will be films made in HK. there should hardly be any Cantonese subtitles as only the HK people understands the slang used, though Chinese people generally can guess somewhat. Cantonese sub or audio will likely have links to the HK movie industry.

Traditional Chinese is nowadays used only in Taiwan (& older folks). Simplified Chinese are the main language medium in writing. So if it is traditional Chinese then it may have some Taiwan link or reason, as US is closer to Taiwan than china :)

There is only one standard spoken mandarin (like English) but with many local slangs.

My 2cents

In sub-title, Mandarin is usually means simplified character and Cantonese means traditional. In english movies with Chinese sub-title. I have not seen any use of Cantonese slangs.

Taiwanese speaks Mandarin, but their written language is Traditional. And 90% of Cantonese in mainland China can't read Traditional.

I think it's stupid to label sub-title as Mandarin and Cantonese. Those terms are referred to spoken dialect, not written. It should be Traditional and Simplified.
Herein lies the confusion:
1) nomenclature is "mandarin" is spoken, "Chinese" is written form, and can be traditional or simplified

2) mainland Cantonese use simplified Chinese as any mainlander, but speak mandarin or Cantonese. HK due to her history, uses traditional Chinese with unique slangs that only HK people understands fully, and they generally speak Cantonese. This confusion arises because there is a full blown film industry in HK, whereas there are also Hokkien / Min Nan (another dialect) subtitles using traditional Chinese with unique slangs as well but used mainly by Taiwanese. It poses less issue generally as Taiwan generally does not export the language through films.

By the way, we didn't watch The Fantastic Mr. Fox until last week. This was my third Netflix movie (I have three out at once) for over eight months! Great movie, by the way.

Fargo, with Mandarin & Cantonese subtitles

I want to get Avatar Extended Collector's Edition but I checked the back of the box, it says it has English, Spanish and French subs only. No mention of any type of Chinese subtiles but the reviews say that it does have Chinese subs.

I live in Canada btw so I dunno if there's a difference between the Canadian version and the U.S. version. Hopefully it is just a typo on the box and it does have a Chinese option in the main menu.
