I see some movies are being reissued like Dreamgirls, and Aeon Flux...When they reissue them does that mean they might change the audio codecs? Or improve on PQ from the first release?

the theory is that no, press release said it would be the same. However the good thing about this, is that we'll finally say goodbay to those guys on ebay and so forth asking a lot of bucks for some titles!

The cases will likely be squared on the spines instead of the curved ones.

Sweet. That means Top Gun with PCM audio.

Couldn't help but notice Shooter was missing from the reissue list.

So what is the reason for putting out a movie a second time on Blu ray if nothing is different??

So that the movies are available again on blu-ray. When Paramount went HD-DVD only they were no longer available on blu-ray. Paramount has turned from the dark side;).

these are only called re-issues b/c when paramount jumped ship, they discontinued production of all current titles they had at the time. this simply puts them back in production, there're no change being done whatsoever.

i could be wrong, in which case let me know.

I suspect no changes will be made, but it really is too bad that they did not take the opportunity to improve some of them.

They want to say resissue but really there just cracking open the boxes that were sitting in some warehouse. Expect a double dip in a few years on some of these. From what is being released on May 20, June 3rd and 24th it looks like Paramount is embracing lossless. The video was rated pretty well on most of these so called reissues of course the audio was legacy with one or maybe two DTS-HD tracks thrown in.

Top Gun on HD-DVD already has TrueHD. No need for PCM on the BR version.

none of the Paramount BRs had DTS-HD. Some had DTS on the label, yet on some the actual disc inside lacked that track (Italian Job). While most of the Paramount BRs had good picture, most of them had better picture on the other format (again, Italian Job is a glaring example) and all had better audio.

my copy of italian job actually has the DTS track on it. I should know, I just watched it with that track.

Many of their reissue titles have inferior sound and or video compared to it's HD DVD counterpart. This is one among many reasons I kepy my 2 HD DVD players and 200+ collection. It's going to be quite awhile before all of Paramount's reissue titles become availabe anyway.

Actually, I do like the curved ones, but I can adapt.

TrueHD track on *my* HD-DVD version is not as good as the standard DTS track on this title (Bass levels are anaemic). Read some older threads and some others came to the same conclusion. Again this applies to this title only.

Therefore personally I wish they would add either a PCM track or DTS-HD-MA track.

Yup, DTS track was better, it was a DTS ES 6.1 kick-ass track

Well, since this was never "issued" to begin with, it's not a "reissue". I haven't seen it mention in any of the release announcements yet so who knows when we'll see it. But some type of lossless audio is necessary on this one.
