View Full Version : Toshiba Television Problem - Emits a high pitch

My Toshiba 30hf66 emits a very high pitch sound. The really unfortunate aspect is that it happens very sporadically and only for minute or so before disappearing for awhile only to come back sporadically again. I have been unable to induce it but it seems to happen more often when scenes are extremely red.

The TV is still under warranty but the first repair place I brought it to claims there is nothing wrong and that they did not hear any sounds from the television. They replaced "a part" and sent it back to me. Now a new repair place is going to drive to my house to look at the TV again. My worry is that they will be at my house for such a short time that they will not hear the sound.

Any ideas on how to isolate or reproduce the sound or record the sound to play back for the technician would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Justin

I've got no ideas for you but feel your pain. I have a 30 HF85 in my bedroom that does the same thing but it seems to be louder when there is lots of white on the screen. If I'm watching a TV show and there's lightning effects, I can hear the change in pitch of the buzzing. Have you ever figured anything out?

I'm to the point where I'm about ready to scrap it and use it for my son's xbox and go get another Vizio which gives me no problem what so ever. I originally had the Tosh in the living room and the Viz in the bedroom but switched them. That's when all my problems started. I also get light and dark tight banded lines that appear to scroll upwards when watching anything through the coaxial.

I'll never buy another Tosh again. It was good for about a year but the Vizio in my opinion is better as long as it's hooked up to a good surround system and they're half the price of the toshs.

Don't base you opinion of the Vizs on what you see at walmart because they usually have them on splitters hooked up to trashy dvd players. Get a good HD signal and they're beautiful.

I bought a refurb from newegg for less than $450 about two years ago and it's been the best money I've spent on a TV in a long time and I've owned: Tosh, Sony, JVC, Phillips in the past ten years.

Hopefully I'm not too late to back up your story to the repairmen. It's a major problem in the bedroom since there isn't any surround sound there and I usually have the volume low which makes the sound even more irritating. I've gotten it to stop completely by turning the set on and off several times while listening for the static to dissipate...make me wonder if the problem isn't related to static buildup...I'm no repairman and wouldn't even know if that could cause such a problem though.

Good Luck--me, I'm going to save a couple hundred bucks a month for a few months and get another Viz for the bedroom and sell this piece of crap for $100 to someone who can't hear very well! HA!!!
