Ok guys, I know this probably isnt the right place, but I want honest opinions. I have children, and I also have a big Hitachi 51F510 Rear Projection CRT that we watch all of our tv on. Problem is, I have a small room. Like 12x9 maybe. I am wondering if it would be a good idea to use a projector as an everyday tv. The reason I am considering this is because of the ability to put it up on my ceiling, and keep the kids from messing with it. Along with all of my components up on the wall where they cant reach them. Im tired of my 3 year old shoving dvds in my old vcr. I have hdmi cables, and all of the such. I also have Verizon FIOS cable to my house. Of course, they are only sending me 1080i but I also have a x360 with the hd hook ups too. I guess what I am asking is will a projector handle all of my inputs, and if so, what is the best deal I can get into? I want 1080p resolution if I can get it, but will pass that up on affordability. My ceiling is 1k.

Also, a side question, how visible is the do it yourself screen, and will it look good in a living room? Thanks in advance all!

You could get one of the Sharp XR30XL PJs and have a happy medium for kids programming and your dvds and xbox360. Its 4:3 format but handles all the HD resolutions and has great color and contrast. At a ceiling of 1K, you are just not gonna get a 1080p pj yet. Live with the Sharp, enjoy the true big screen experience and save for when 1080p comes down to budget level in a year or two.

I painted my screen from the EasyFlex formulas in the DIY forum and it works great!
