View Full Version : Which is the best? lowpsi 05-03-08, 01:20 PM I am new to the large screen tv. i am wondering what is the best tv to get, i would prefer over 50inch. and my budget is $2000. any help would be great. thanks in advance. walford 05-03-08, 05:24 PM What is your criteria for "best"? Best at displaying SD TV. Best at displaying HD OTA digital. Best at displaying BR HD DVDs. Best at displaying accurate colors. Best at displaying fast moving sports broadcasts. Best overall at some specific viewing distance. Best at using the least power to operate. Best at having the maintenace costs. Is Flat panel wall mounting a requirement? StillwaterTownie 05-03-08, 06:25 PM Samsung DLP LED is the best rear projection TV lowpsi 05-03-08, 09:07 PM thanks guys. i think im going to go with an LCD though.... still have no idea what im doing or looking for, even in an LCD. StillwaterTownie 05-04-08, 12:37 AM Then be prepared to pay more, maybe by a lot, for a 1080p LCD, especially in the biggest screen sizes. If I was walking away from RP, I would rather go with plasma, rather than LCD. The only reasons that may be good for not wanting a Samsung DLP are because the narrower viewing angle is disturbing and because you can't hang it on the wall. For some people, the lower price for DLP may wipe out those reasons. Thundercat99 05-04-08, 08:01 AM Hey Low, you are gonna hve to work this as WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU! We all SEE differently to a certain extent in my opinion. Go to CNET.com they have a very nice thorough beginers tutorial on HDTVs and display technologies , covering all the basics you need to know before you buy ANYTHING! After reading through that do the following: Look up C-NET's ratings/reviews on the different manufactures and models you are considering. Pay a little attention to the owners reviews, some useful info can be found there as well as some not so useful info. You can also see owners reviews at epinions.com and some retailers like Circuit City have owners reviews/ratings for different models posted. Then once you have an idea of what you might like, that has the FEATURES you like, that's in your budget go to various retailers in your area and see em "LIVE" , but be sure to play with the settings as stores are notorious for setting some manufactures sets badly so as to push you to buy something else(usually higher price). and last but not least make sure you get chapter and verse on the retailers return policy so that if/when you bring it home and ARE NOT HAPPY WITH IT you can return it to try something else you might like. Good Hunting and have fun!! Jim Clark 05-04-08, 08:18 AM No way you're getting a good quality 50"+ LCD for $2000. At that price point you're looking at rear projection. If you could find one, a 50-60" Sony A3000 is probably the best rear projection set ever made. BUT, Sony has stopped making rear projection sets and there are precious few left in the stores. Ozymandis 05-04-08, 08:53 AM Ya, if you can still find one, Sony's A3000. I got one and it's awesome, much better than the Samsung DLP I had before (lamp-based), and I also thought it looked better than the LED DLPs out now. The prices on these are crazy, I paid substantially less than 2k for a 60A3000 NIB. Only thing I don't like is that you can clearly see SSE. But you get used to it, especially when everything else is so good- good blacks, great black detail, good brightness, no burn-in, great accurate colors, tons of features. Now for 2k you might find a Pioneer Kuro 50 inch. That's a great plasma. My brother has a 4280 and it looks better than my RPTV in most ways. On the reference settings from AVS there is loss in black detail compared to my A3000. Yes, Kuros crush blacks a bit, and they're a little dim. They're still awesome, especially in dark rooms. |
