I have an Optoma HD65 and connected via PS3 component output.

When playing Blueray disc the Playstation will scale down the signal from 1080p to 1080i, then the projector will scale this down to 720p.

My question is there any advantage getting an HDMI cable to the projector and just let the projector scale down the signal from 1080p to 720p?

Thanks

I recommend you buy an HDMI cable from monoprice.com. SD-DVDs are not upscaled through component. Also, HDMI cable is cheaper than component cable at those distances.

Well I did end up getting a HDMI cable for my HC1500 PS3 combo but I haven't noticed a difference in Blu-ray output. The reason why is because I was feeding the projector a 720p image over component cable. Which is basically what your trying to do.

Go in to your display settings and have a check next to 480p and 720p but uncheck 1080i. This will force the PS3 to display the disks in their respective resolutions. The only reason you'd need a HDMI cable at this point is if you wanted to uncheck the 480p and have the playstation upscale your DVDs which I would highly recommend with the mosquito filter set to 1.

Further reading susgests to give the projector the highest signal possible and let it scale the image to 720p. Therefore I would uncheck 480p, 720p, 1080i, and check 1080p only.
