View Full Version : I have to choose between LED DLP or regular this week

Hey all,

I have a warranty swap i have to choose from with Best Buy. I need to choose between a 65" Samsung DLP (lamp) and the newer Samsung 61" LED DLP.

I would think that without a moving color wheel, and the LED lamp, the LED DLP may have less moving parts to go wrong - but I am looking for other Pros and Cons..

Any help is appreciated. Also, will 1080p Blue Ray dvds look as good on these sets as they would on a 1080p LCD set (or at least pretty close?)

My main concerns are contract ratio and 120hz issues. I would like to disable features that cause HD movies to look like digital video.

I am excited about the new TV, but at the same time, I am scared of making the wrong choice.

Funny thing, the people at BestBuy couldn't tell me if the DLP LED set had a color wheel or not (pathetic).

Thanks in advance,

Matt!

Yo Killer

From my browsing on here I'd go with the 61 LED, and if I remeber my readings correctly It does not have a color wheel but that can be checked on the samsung website to be sure.

Thunder...

Thanks.... The brochure (HERE (http://www.samsung.com/us/system/consumer/product/2008/03/26/hl61a750a1fxza/hl61a750_spec.pdf)) from the Samsung site says:

LED (Light Emitting Diode) for state-ofthe-
art color and long life performance.
LED replaces arc lamp & color wheel and
realizes beautiful color

So, i suppose that means no color wheel....

It also says:

3D HD ready. Samsung DLP® HDTVs are
capable of displaying future 3D games,
movies, and other programming via 3D
compatible glasses and hardware.

That seems silly, unless I am missing something, because 3D systems are nothing new...

Thanks again,

Matt!

Yo Killer

I think that 3D mention is it's compatible with present/future video games/broadcast/movies/sports presented in 3D. Geez 3D HD with HT Sound, now that would be sumptin to experience!!

But I don't know if 3D glasses/gaming goggles may or may not be required to experience it. Ask around I'm sure others can provide the correct answer if i'm in error.

Good Hunting!!
