Hey all,
I'm new to posting here, but have been reading a ton over the last few months. Finally starting to finish my basement off so I'm building a dedicated Home theater. I need help picking a set-up. Please consider my options and give your honest opinion.

Option 1:
Panasonic PT-AX200U

Option2:
Epson Home Cinema 1080

Display Devices:
Xbox 360 Elite HDMI (use this for DVD playing)
Blu-Ray Player (TBD)

I'm struggling to choose btwn 720 & 1080. I was originally going to go w/ the 1080, but read the 1080 vs. 720 thread and thats what made me think I might be better off going w/ 720. Also, I'll be going from a 36" Tube TV.

If I go w/ 1080 I'll be forced to use my current "out-of-box" surround sound (5.1). If I go w/ 720 I can put the balance into a good sound system (Yamaha RX-V663 7.1 w/ Klipsch speakers). My thinking is to get a great sound system/receiver that will last a long time and go 720 with the intent of upgrading in a few years to a 1080...

Right now I dont have HDTV, but will probably upgrade once I get either PJ to DirecTV.

I guess my only question is this: For my input devices will I notice a big difference btwn the 1080 & 720?

Thanks in advance.

If you buy the AX200 and the RX-V663 you'll have my setup, except I have Paradigm Cinema90s. Have you considered a screen?

I'd go with a 720p and upgrade your sound system.

I would also go with the 720 and upgrade the sound system. I have a 1080 projector (HP 4900) and a pretty good sound system and I think that the sound is really important to get the true theater experience. With the way projector prices are dropping you will be able to get a decent 1080 projector in 2 years for well under $1000. I had a 480 projector before and the picture was still good for regular DVDs and again the sound makes it more like a true theater experience. I think too many people get caught up in the picture and forget about the sound.

I plan on building the screen myself...
