I have a Sony vpl-ds100 3LCD projector. I know 3LCD uses 3 color LCD panels to create the image.

So here is the problem, there seems to be what looks like an ink stain on the bottom of the screen. It looks like someone has splashed paint on the screen. There is also a blueish tint in the middle of the screen. I take it the Blue LCD panel inside is going bad. Just want to confirm this.

Thanks

No the LCD panel itself, but the polarizers. There are two for each color.

What you are describing sounds like a burn on the polarizer(s). I would definitely get Sony to take care of this. The repair costs if you had to eat it are not pretty.

I took it apart today, pulled out the c board optical block and then the prism assembly ... none of the polarizers seemed stained or burned ... how does a burned one look like ? i was waiting for the obvious stain .. i found some dust in the area , cleaned it out but nada ......

anyone have any other suggestions why i have a blue tint in the middle of my screen .... towards the bottom looks like streaks of blue ink .....

What you describe is not a polarizer problem. The blue lcd panel is damaged, probably by heat. I have the same problem on my Sony HS-10. Unfortunately, short of replacing the prism block (really expensive). I don't believe that there is no way to fix this.
This thread discusses the problem.
