why do they all have to be so damn "BIG"? It's quite hard to find a small space saving subwoofer.

im looking for a sub thats around 12" all around, no more than 15-16"

any good recommenations? i dont know where to start. price is not a concern.

Funny most men here look for bigger subwoofers than they already have :p

If price isn't an issue you have several options from velodyne among others, for the price take a look at the SVS SB12 plus.

If price is not a concern, check out the JL Fathoms. Pretty much the best subs you can get for the size. The 12" is just a little larger than you wanted. The F110 should becoming out soon and is smaller.

If you're talking about the JL Fathom

http://home.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=34

If you're talking about the SVS SB12 Plus

http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-sb12plus.cfm

And also the Velodyne SPL 1200

Since price is no object that should round out the range.

If price is no concern, why look any further than JL?

Look a few threads down...to the gentleman wanting to sell his Sunfire Sub Jr....tiny tiny and big output. Looks like he is selling it for less than 1/3 the MSRP. Might be an option. Price is not a concern until it's a $3000 JL, I'd imagine ;)

Because overall output is rated among the highest, if not the highest non-DIY sealed sub out there for sale as of right now. Pretty finish as well.

I think there will be some offerings from Epik, av123 and maybe a few others in the near future that might compete or even surpass the JL Fathom series for much less premium. I hope!

If price is no object and you want small size then I would look at the top of the line Sunfire sub. 13" x 13" x 13"

The reason that they have to be that big is very simple... The laws of physics. Specifically, Hoffman's Iron Law. You can pick any two variables in the equation, but the third is dictated to you. Subs are ideally built to extend to the lower frequencies with a certain amount of efficiency. Therefor, the size and internal volume of the boxes have to meet a certain size criteria, which is usually fairly large. You can make some compromises to reduce the size of the box, but it usually means incorporating a better and more expensive driver and amp. In other words, you can get a smaller box, but it is certainly going to cost you.

I now have the JLAudio F113, which is still small, but bigger than you are looking for. Before the F113, I went through a ton of smaller subs. My favorite by far was the Paradigm Seismic 12.

You could also call up the eD custom shop. For 3 grand (cost of JL) I bet you could get them to build you something pretty interesting regardless of the size.

LOL size does matter! Get a 18” cinema professional one and play it a lower level output because you never know when you might need MORE for parties or films like APOLLO 13 where the low end counts the most!:)

im looking for a sub thats around 12" all around, no more than 15-16"The JL that has been mentioned is probably the better one that has been mentioned, but the SB12+ IS smaller and will provide very good performance.
