I recently (about 7 weeks ago) had a new lamp installed (under warranty) in a Mits. WD-65732 and now to my surprise the picture is very dull even though it is set on brilliant. Turning up the brightness just washes out the already dull picture. What gives? Will I be able to get the lamp replaced for this reason? Or do you think it is not the new lamp that is causing this?

Did they do a good cleaning as well? Dullness even with a new lamp in rear projections are almost always dust related.

I just called for service. I will let you know what the problem was.
The metal screen on the old lamp and every thing visible where the lamp goes looked as clean as new. I would think that if anything needed cleaning it would show up first at the lamp because that is where the greatest air movement would be so therefore gather the most dust.
I do use a ionizing filter in this room which seems to reduce air born dust. I think the ions make the dust settle quickly so there is not as much dust that is in the air to get sucked into the TV.
I should have mentioned that after the new lamp was put in, the picture would momentarily dim then return to it former brightness; this would not happen much but just the same did happen once in a while. And also, with the new lamp, the picture takes longer to reach it's full brightness, which is not as bright as the old lamp (just prior to going out completely) was. The old lamp had only 3200 hours on it prior to going out complete.
The service guy was here. The first thing he did is pull the lamp, he look it over really good and said it looked normal. Then he put in different new one and what a difference it made, the original brightness is back.
I asked him if he has see defective new lamps before; he said yes, but it is rare, I said, maybe 1 out of 100? He though not even that many.
