Please could you help me with the crossover I need to set on the Denon as well as the crossover I need to set on the sub to get very good quality bass efect.
(do it have to be same on the reciever and sub. Please guide)
Also does anyone have recommended settings in Denon for this combination.
Many Thanks in advance.

Hemp with Denon/Jamo Sub Settings
Grind up the hemp, put it in a bong and smoke it while listening to your system.

Hi,
Many Thanks for the prompt reply.
I am placing the sub on the floor on a carpet.
So what should be the cross-over on the Denon reciever and what should the cross-over be kept on the Jamo Sub?
Please help with the ideal settings for the following:
Cut off frequency (Hz) .................................... 40HZ-150HZ
Phase : 0-180
Volume: Min to Max
What should the above 3 settings be, assuming I keep the x-over on the Denon reciever at a 120 hz ?
Thanks

Hi there,
I would recommend a 120 hz x-over with those speakers as a minimum. Try to avoid using the x-over in the sub in conjunction with the av receiver's x-over as you will get cascading of both filters.
If the subwoofer has an "LFE" input in it usually bypasses the internal low-pass filter in the subwoofer. If not, turn the low-pass filter to maximum as that will take it out of the passband and not affect the crossover in the av receiver and cancellation will be minimized.
Where are you positioning the subwoofer ?

What you need to do is to choose a 120 hz x-over on the Denon and turn the crossover knob (really just a low-pass filter) to maximum. Although some might find it a bit too low, 120 hz is probably the best choice you have for minimizing localization.
150 hz would be best for headroom purposes but the chances of localizing the subwoofer will be higher. Try both out and see which one sounds better. As far as phase is concerned, a crude method to achieve the correct phase is to play back the subwoofer test tone and switch between 0 to 180 deg until you hear the loudest bass. This is where the phase ideally should be set to.
Good luck.

Turn the phase knob to 0. There are two "volume" controls that you need to set; one is the gain control set at the back of the subwoofer and the other is the subwoofer level control (trim controls) built-in to the AV receiver.
Do you have an SPL meter to calibrate your system ? Otherwise set the gain control to 40-50% of it's maximum level and then tune by ear. Just make sure that the subwoofer level is set (from -10 to +10) in the minus range to insure no clipping of the pre-out stage.
I really recommend getting an SPL meter from Radioshack to set the levels correctly.
Cheers.
