I don't know the lineage, but I stumble across this over at fatwallet:
http://www.myvirtualzone.com/detail.aspx?ID=14482

It's a 640x480 projector that uses halogen bulbs for $200

It's also available at overstock.com:
http://www.overstock.com/electronics/nextar-multimedia-projector/3043322/product.html?siteID=.7WaaTN6umc-6xXvxHGz2_g.wnAX98Eq8A

Downsides: 600:1 contrast, 300 lumens, VGA

Upsides: It's only $200 with cheap replaceable bulbs!!

You know it might be OK to have as a news/kids/SD projector when you don't want to fire up the big boy.

I'm sure this PJ has it's uses, as you stated above (kids room, etc.) but it's not an alternative to Lumenlab's. The Lumenlab is a DIY projector - i.e., you build it and maintain all the internal components. This is just a very cheap unit. I doubt many people are buying Lumenlab PJ's for the lower cost - it's for the satisfaction of having built your own projector.

$150 for VGA resolution is better than $100 for 480X240. Still, may be better to spend $400 for SVGA, real PJ although bulbs will cost more.
