I have a Samsung 4676s that I purchased on 3/31/07. Have had probs off and on and thought it was intermittent and wasnt going to make a difference in the long run, got worse and wife said it happened to her all the time. I call samsung thinking I had bought it memorial weekend and had plenty of time which I didnt. They extended my warranty 90 days as it was 2 weeks after the warranty ended. I thought that was great. Anyways, problem is it will randonmly not turn on, no diag lights, looks like the light is kicking on, no melody, no response to buttons via remote or panel. TV shuts down and will come on fine second time around. Tech replaced the bulb with no troubleshooting, said thats what it was. Same problem still occuring but last night tv shut down, tried to come back on, shut down, came on, switched inputs, shut down, attempted a few more restarts came back on just fine. LED's were flashing in a random order not matching anything I could find on diag lights. Called Samsung, they are getting with the service provider and calling em back supposedly. Honestly I am thinking of getting a 52in xbr4 as I am done with this tv. Sony is dropping there prices and I get 40% off on their products. I went with the set I have because that was the largest that would fit my entertainment center and couldnt convince the wife that wallmount was the way to go. So the question is multifaceted. What is wrong with my set, should i replace it, and is the sony a good choice?

I don't even own this TV and I'm telling you that I would have it replaced. I use the same logic for most things. If it's under warranty and it never works correctly, it's time for a new one. That's why we have warranties.
I'm not a huge fan of hanging in there to the last second because that's when they try their hardest to not do anything for the customer.

I have the 4674 and have had zero issues with the set except I wish it would stop shrinking.
Is you remote control "sticking"? Sometimes a key will remain depressed and send out continous on / off signals.
How is the quality of power coming into your house and that particular outlet?
How is the internal fan? Can you hear is working?
How is the overall ventilation around your set? If the vent hole at the rear of the set is blocked and the inner temperature is too high the set will switch off.
Good luck
voltage is 118 on an isobar, fixin to go UPS, samsung remote is not in use, and my harmony signal led is not coming on so i assume it isnt sending the signal. The false start has been the biggest prob and does it even on cold start so I dont think its a heat issue. Pulled the set further out to make sure, and all my eqipment has plenty of ventilation. I can feel the fan moving air, and a buzzing noise sometimes. Samsung says this is normal though, the buzzing was going on during the whole poltergeist issue. Talked to the tech and he want to replace main board but wondered about color wheel. When I mentioned the buzzing he decided to order the wheel and i think i convinved him to replace the ballast. If it doesnt fix it samsung says he can send in a form to get it junked out. I dont know if that means they replace it or give me my money back though.
