In my apartment there are two end tables on either end of our couch with matching lamps on them, but when I got my projector we decided to put it on one of the end tables since ceiling mounting isn't really an option. So I built a (VERY cheesy, but functional) stand for the lamp to sit above the projector. I tried to allow for the projector to have ample room for air flow but I'd kind of like to get some other opinions.

Here's a few cell phone shots as I'm one of the last remaining people in America without a digital camera:

Now my roommate and I are college students, so the fact that the stand I built looks horrible doesn't really matter to us, so take that into consideration.

Assuming all your vents are in the rear and the front, the only issue I see is enough clearance in back for proper air flow. The owners manuals usually address this. If the manual indicates you have inadequate clearance on the sides, that can be easily resolved by cutting a large hole in each side, still leaving plenty for structural support.

that looks like a mitsu like mine, if so it should vent its heat out the front and you should be all set, if so.

As Sheridan1952 points out, the air has to come from someplace (usually it's in the rear of the PJ), and you need enough clearance there too. Providing lots of space for the air exhaust is only half the problem. The air intake has to have lots of clearance too.

Read your owners manual!

I'm pretty sure the air intake is on the right front and the exhaust is on the left front in that picture, so the intake should not be a problem.

The owners manual says there are air vents on the SIDES, the BACK, the FRONT and the BOTTOM. So ALL areas should be clear for air movement.

Refer to your owners manual for more specific information.

I have a Mits with a similar case, at least. I'd say slide it forward 2 inches towards the front of the side table and you're good to go.

And open the sides of the stand.

Hey thanks guys. Ya I plan to make another stand out of a nicer laminated cabinet shelf I have and I'll just cut four legs rather than having entire sides like on my current setup. Though I used it for about six hours on Monday and it seemed fine... :o There's plenty of room behind and in front for air to circulate.

I wouldn't use it again until you have it properly ventilated...
