Am I right in saying the blu-ray format only allows 24p or 60i? if so planet earth, as its a BBC production, would be shot at 25fps or any British show for that matter.
I've been looking on the net for info, to find out how it was shot. The only thing I can find, is that it was shot as 1080i (assuming wikipedia is correct)
so if is indeed 25fps, would they just slow it down 4% or some pulldown effect or was it really shot at 24fps
Any info on this.

It's a pulldown conversion. Very common, and it's not that different from a 24-30fps conversion. You probably won't notice the difference.

This old thread is amongst many that we have on PE and covers what you asked (cameras, resolution, frame-rate conversion).
Was "Planet Earth" shot in 1080p24 or 1080p25? (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=886970)

No it's not a pulldwown conversion. They slowed it down 4% from 25p to 24p. Galapagos however, was a conversion. They kept the speed and converted it from 25p to 60i interpolating frames. If you step frame-by-frame you will see interpolated ghost-like frames every now and then.
Cheers, Ill get it this weekend :)

Thanks for the info. Good example of why there is a search engine.
