View Full Version : Will the June Re-release of the 80GB PS3... wideskreen 05-06-08, 09:58 AM ...be PS2 backward compatible as before? I have looked and looked on various forums and have found no answer. Thanks. desmond212 05-06-08, 10:08 AM yes. TripleTapper 05-06-08, 10:25 AM yes. Source? bferr1 05-06-08, 10:49 AM Backwards compatibility is in the product description here: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665371946 TripleTapper 05-06-08, 11:28 AM Backwards compatibility is in the product description here: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665371946 That works for me! Thanks L3thal80 05-06-08, 09:27 PM That works for me! Thanks That seems like a good deal for the 80Gb version. You get PS2 compatability, MGS4 and a 40Gb larger hard drive for $50 more than the 40Gb version without MGS4. andross77 05-07-08, 10:48 AM That seems like a good deal for the 80Gb version. You get PS2 compatability, MGS4 and a 40Gb larger hard drive for $50 more than the 40Gb version without MGS4. don't you mean $100 more? and it will have ds3 too which is $50. Ratnose86 05-07-08, 11:44 AM Looks like it has the 4 USBs and Memory card slots and SACD also. Did the other 80 GB have these? Excellent deal and the best version put out so far i think. I see this selling very well. andross77 05-07-08, 12:09 PM Looks like it has the 4 USBs and Memory card slots and SACD also. Did the other 80 GB have these? Excellent deal and the best version put out so far i think. I see this selling very well. yeah, it's going to be EXACTLY the same as the previous 80gb's to my knowledge. only difference in package will be ds3 and mgs4 of course. I don't think there is ANY chance the die will be the 45nm one. If it is, i may sell my 40gb just to have the "latest and greatest." :) Even though mine runs cold and cool atm. number1laing 05-07-08, 12:48 PM No way will it be the 45nm die, that will not be online for another 1-2 years. But it might be the 60nm or whatever it is the 40gb is using. Unless they had tons of unsold 80gb and are just repackaging them, don't think that's the case though. Degenerazn 05-07-08, 12:55 PM Is it PS1 bc? number1laing 05-07-08, 01:02 PM PS1 BC is done entirely in software. The 40gb is BC with PS1. Degenerazn 05-07-08, 01:06 PM PS1 BC is done entirely in software. The 40gb is BC with PS1. Wait, the 40gig PS3 is PS1 BC but not PS2 BC? So all PS3s have PS1 BC? number1laing 05-07-08, 01:13 PM Isn't that just what I said? The CELL is able to emulate the PS1 CPU by itself. Since the CELL is in every PS3 yes every PS3 can run PS1 games. PS2 emulation at the moment requires some hardware help which the 40gb lacks. andross77 05-07-08, 01:51 PM i would actually be interested to see how terrible a ps1 game looks on a 50" sony sxrd :) are all the timeless classics from ps2 or did ps1 have a lot of hits? i mean as good as god of war, collosus and ff12 etc. Degenerazn 05-07-08, 02:20 PM ^^ Most of the classics are the JRPGs, mostly FF7,8,9 and FF Tactics. I forgot how all mighty powerful the CELL is. number1laing 05-07-08, 02:26 PM I don't think a 3.2ghz multicore processor emulating a system with a 33mhz CPU and 4.5 megs of RAM really proves how powerful it is. andross77 05-07-08, 02:41 PM I don't think a 3.2ghz multicore processor emulating a system with a 33mhz CPU and 4.5 megs of RAM really proves how powerful it is. oh snap! what WILL "Degenerazn" come back with? *holds breath in anticipation* Degenerazn 05-07-08, 05:13 PM oh snap! what WILL "Degenerazn" come back with? *holds breath in anticipation* Nothing, he got me there. I bet you have a tattoo that says the same thing. Maybe you and that Zune guy should be buddies. number1laing 05-07-08, 10:41 PM I bet you have a tattoo that says the same thing. What are you talking about? kreepy 05-07-08, 10:49 PM Everything I have read, is that the new 80GB will NOT be BC....No one really knows..but more and more sources are saying that the new ones will be built like the current 40GB units number1laing 05-07-08, 10:59 PM What sources? I would be interested in reading that, because it doesn't make any sense. Sony has admitted the 80gb sold a lot better than they thought it would... if they don't realize that is because it has BC they are insane. PikachuManZzZ 05-07-08, 11:18 PM Everything I have read, is that the new 80GB will NOT be BC....No one really knows..but more and more sources are saying that the new ones will be built like the current 40GB units Sony probably knows. They've already said it has BC, both on the PS Blog and on SonyStyle. Really, what sources do you have that are more credible? Toolman00 05-08-08, 02:34 AM <---- Patiently waiting for the new 80 gig PS3. I bought a refurbed 80GB unit about a month ago and it died after 2 weeks of use (maybe 10 hours of use). Sent it back to the seller and will be getting a refund. If I lasted this long, I can wait another month without a PS3. csgamer 05-08-08, 02:54 AM Everything I have read, is that the new 80GB will NOT be BC....No one really knows..but more and more sources are saying that the new ones will be built like the current 40GB units You need to get new sources |
